      Reality Checks Suck

Last night I had one of the most amazing dreams. It was the second time something like it has happened. I was in my basement and I did an RC. Suddenly I was acting like it was a lucid but the RC failed! I was rubbing my hands together and everything. Then I tried to shoot fire out of my hands and it didn't work. I went running at my sister and jumped through her like I was a ghost. Every time I would do that though, I would go flying through and hit the floor. In the dream I just believed that I was god. I started telling my dad I was god, He touched my face for some reason and I felt like my face went numb, Weird sensation. I tried to make an object appear behind me but it didn't work either I said that when I turned around there would be a bottle of coca cola. There wasn't. Next one of my ex girlfriends came and I didn't say or do anything because I thought it was real life.

My first lucid dream involved no reality checks. I ran, I jumped in hopes of flying, and faceplanted. I really don't know what to tell you.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

Yes, I've had one like that (from a FA). I did all the RCs, tried to do "impossible" things but everything carried on just the way it would in normal life. Though somehow I managed to know I was dreaming throughout the whole dream.

i feel that reality checks are more of a way to stabilize the dream. though i do many reality checks throughout the day, i think it just increases my awareness of the reality im in which helps with becoming lucid. none of my lucid dreams have begun with me doing a reality check and questioning if its a dream, i always just realize its a dream, like "holy shit im dreaming" and then i execute a couple reality checks to stabilize the dream and make my self even more aware that im actually dreaming.

I thought I'd add to what I said, I used brain bullet and I think it actually helped. I added texts saying things such as "I will have a vivid dream" and what not.

I used Brain Bullet a while ago.

I had it flash a message every 60 seconds telling me to reality check. I spend so much time on the computer that it could be very effective, if I had the resilience to keep up with it. The night after I stopped doing it, the message flashed in the dream. Unfortunately, I didn't reality check.

it helps to stabilize the dream. cause sometimes i quickly forget im dreaming and go into regular dream mode, so doing frequent reality checks once lucid helps me stay lucid

that seems to be the popular opinion nowadays just got back on here 2 weeks ago ,when i got sick with the flu and stopped my daily marijuana intake.last time i was in here, 2-3 yrs ago was when i quit smoking as well

my dream recall is back and phenomenal and i can actually fall back asleep and sometimes go back to the same general dream, sometimes not, after writing in my dream journal

...too bad it takes me sometimes a half hour or more to go back to sleep ...

anyway...would it be a good time to try WILDING when i go back to sleep at 2 and 4 am after being awake for 5 minutes or so ?i think about it really hard but i think thats whats keeping me from going back to sleep.

@ thread title: Yes, they do.

I don't even reality check anymore, except to disprove the notion that I'm dreaming. I have only become lucid through a sudden wave of realization quite separate of reality checking. RC's are, however, a great TOOL, and should not be dismissed completely. As a sole means of becoming lucid, it varies from person to person. For some, it works great. For others, not so much. At the very least, they are great for stabilizing dreams, or double-checking before you do something exceptionally stupid in waking life.
