      Matra Help?

(Due to the lack of a specific topic name, I'm re-posting this topic. If someone could delete the old one, called "D:", please do it. Thanks.)

Well, I've been trying to get a LD by MILDing, and it's not the fact that I can't do it (I've only been trying for 2-3 weeks), it's that the second time I tried it, I got a lucid! (Very unstable, though). I tried that mantra tonight, exactly the same thing, yet I didn't experience anything. I did wake up a bit earlier, though, so something might have happened.

Here's what I'm doing: (If anyone can help/refine)
I do my normal before-bed stuff at 9:00 PM (Brush teeth, wash face, etc.)
Usually, right after I go to bed. 9:05 PM (Sometimes I read)
Yesterday I went to bed at 8:50 PM
When I'm in bed, I say, over and over again, "I will experience a lucid dream" for 20 minutes or until I fall asleep. (The first lucid night I did it until I fell asleep, can't seem to do it now)

EDIT: D: I just realized I spelled "mantra" wrong. Epic fail.

When you MILD, you can't expect results every time, especially in the beginning. It takes a while for things to really soak in...we're talking months to years before you can have a lucid on a regular basis. You're doing great by maintaining a consistent sleep schedule and by repeating the mantra for as long as possible. It is a great habit you have fallen into. Have patience, and good things will come in time.

you might want to use something with "i will realize i'm dreaming" instead of using the word "lucid." i'm not sure if your mind reacts as strongly to the word "lucid." .. and you just have to let it sink in, it'll work well eventually.

yeah, I remember hearing this, too. Your brain packs a lot more meaning behind "dream" over "lucid"

I agree with the two posters above.

I have always had success with this - I think it comes from Laberge or Waggoner:

"The next time I dream I will realize I am dreaming and will become aware"

I also improved on this a little by using prospective memory training and intentional language- so my version is :

"This is VERY IMPORTANT, the VERY next time I dream I MUST recognize I am dreaming and WILL become concious within my dream and take control"

Obviously the caps should be stressed as you say it out loud or within your head.

I also read you should visulize the words as you say them - I do this.
Every Man and Every Woman is a Star - There is no god but Man.

The word of sin is restriction - Thou hast no right but to do what thy will.

Like Mario said, not every MILD will be a success. Just keep working at it until you become lucid.

If it doesn't work after a long amount of time (a week or two), then consider changing your mantras or doing it in a different way.
