      Uberman's Sleep Schedule?

      Math lesson!

      Everyone knows there are 3 periods in a 24 hour day, with each period being 8 hours. 8 x 3 = 24.

That means that if we sleep for 8 hours every night (Like me, going to bed at 10 pm and waking up at 6 am) then we're sleeping away 1/3 of our entire day!

I bring this up because I recently read about a sleep schedule called "Uberman's". It enroaches sleeping for 6 periods a day, for 30 minutes each.

If one were to sleep like that, one would ultimatly sleep only 3 hours a day. The apparent point of this sleep schedule is to maximize the amount of time spent in REM sleep and minimize the amount of non-REM sleep.

We all know that REM sleep is when your dreams occur, which is to say that if you could immediately go into REM for 30 minutes 6 times a day, that you'd get a whopping 3 hours of REM regularly! Imagine how easy it would be to attain WILDs!

So, I want to try this out! Though, I was hoping you guys at DV could share your experiences with this sleep schedule and whether or not you'd personally recommend it based on your own experiences

      Let me know your thoughts!

      What? ...

This technique is supposed to help you become lucid easier. Not to mention that you'll be able to get more out of your day. Why sleep 8 hours when you can sleep 3 and feel even more energetic than you would if you had slept longer? Also, the part where it MAKES YOU LUCID MUCH EASIER is motivation enough. Instead of getting one 10 minute REM period every 90 minutes that gradually increases over your 6 to 8 hour sleep oddessy, why not just jump right into REM for one short 30 minute nap? That's 3 hours of REM, buddy!

You'll be able to WILD like you never could before.

If you're worried about this type of schedule conflicting with your work schedule, don't. You sleep for 3 hours a day...As opposed to 8. How can sleeping less be more time consuming?

If you were on the Uberman's sleep schedule, any job would try to hire you! Imagine a worker that DOUBLES their weekly efficiency! While all the other employees are sleeping, this one is still being productive...

I have heard about and discussed this sleep schedule among friends. One friend claims to know someone who has done it, and the report was something as such:

For the first few weeks, you are a complete zombie. It's hard to get used to and your body will take a beating trying to adjust to it. After a while, when you lay down to sleep your body realizes "that's it, this is the only time I am going to get to sleep, I must go into REM right away." and you wake up feeling refreshed, even more so than an 8-hour sleep schedule.

From other sources I have heard it works, it's great and something everyone should try... but society is not built around this type of sleep schedule. I have always wanted to try this, but work and university do not allow for it, and I am iffy about the initial zombie phase.

You may *feel* that way, but are you? My uncles a pyschologist, and I had asked him about this sleep schedule. He told me that NREM is just as important as REM, So I'd tread with caution when it comes to this.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

DpsBob, I'm assuming, is talking about a 9-5 job, where you do not have 2-3 half-hour breaks.

If you worked from your house this is do-able I guess...

Rebelution, your talking about double the effeciency, but if your a zombie for three weeks before it sets in and it fails, your out three weeks of profiencent work (and possibly a job).

You would need astronaut like training for this, also this is probably impossible without supporters. (I said supporters, not buddies trying it with you, as you all will probably quit together like Neil Strauss and his fellow PUA did in The Game.)

I just think it would put such a burden on you, your priorities in life and the people around you 'the zombie'. Plus, you can't drive in that state..

It would be too hard with any kind of regular schedule. I was about to say a kid could probably get through the program, but unless he's home schooled, he still has a schedule to keep. Maybe a kid on summer vacation.

      lol.

Well, some people managed to stick this schedule for some time so it can be done. The main problems are:

      1) Adaptation period is hellishly hard
      2) Long- and medium-term consequences are unknown. Depriving yourself off NREM does not really sounds like the best idea.
      3) If we are talking about LDing then the whole hassle does not worth it as there are much more easier ways to get lucids.

Personally I've tried it couple of times but getting anywhere far enough was too hard for me.

I have tried it but eventually grew tired of being irritable all the time as I was adjusting to the shorter periods of sleep.

As it is now, I am trying for more of a "reverse Uberman" whereby my waking hours are limited in comparison to my sleeping hours. This presents its own set of complications and really the hardest part for me is that I hate sleeping during the day.

But I do feel extremely well rested, which is kind of the point for me.
