People that lucid dream and dont even know what it is.

Today at work i was talking to a coworker on the subject of dreams and i brought up lucid dreaming and explained what it was and he told me that he does it all the time in almost every dream and he didnt know there was actually a name for it.

i then explained to him that not everybody can do it and that ive actually taught myself how to lucid dream.

i just find it really interesting that theres people out there that lucid dream all the time and dont think anything special of it

So they don't know the technical term for it. I fail to see what's interesting about that.

I dreamed lucidly for most of my childhood without a working knowledge of what it was, how to operate it, whether it was important or not... It took only a minimal amount of searching - once I discovered the internet - to figure out what I was experiencing.

In fact, the shamans of mesoamerica, the hebrew mystics, and the tibetan monks all say mostly the same thing when it comes to the dreaming world: what's important is what the individual experiences, not whether or not that individual is capable of explaining to others what he/she/it experiences. Actually, most of the belief systems in which dreaming plays an integral role calls for secrecy when it comes to these lucid encounters; stating that it lessens the impact for the individual when he/she/it attempts to relate/record the dream. Like when someone says: "I can't tell you what my wish was, or it won't come true..."

I knew it's importance, well somewhat, but for a very long time i didn't know the term used for it, nor did i know that it had names attached to it's various forms. I began to lucid dream when i was 13 because i used to have some seriously intense and long lasting nightmares consistently. So i spent two years learning how to 1)better strengthen my awareness in my dreams, 2) and then exorcise control over them.

Now i almost never ever have nightmares, if i do the dream is like a flash, it'll come and happen the go away rapidly and just leave me with a "memory" of it in the following dreams that night.

      "MementoMori, the lucid machine"

"There's nothing better than knowing what it's like to fly like superman. Being fully aware of the air whipping by you, controlling every movement of every single atom in your body with a single thought. It's real freedom, and there's not a word good enough to describe it, so I'll just call it dreamy for now."

Yes, that would be natural. I thought that once, too, regarding other experiences.

yeah, my friends that way. he says he always knows hes dreaming. but its just a dream so he doesn't care

it frustrates me, because my experiences with Lucid dreaming are such a gift to me, and I cant imagine being indifferent to them

I just chalk it up to the fact that he lacks a creative mind, he is dull and unpassionate to the fact that he can reach this fantastic world.

I knew that I had two different kinds of dreams when I was little. Ones where I knew it was a dream and ones where I didnt but I didnt know there was a name for the ones I knew I was dreaming. It wasnt until actually finding out that it had a name did I start pushing it beyond just flying and telekenisis but I got out of it for a while and then when my gf started telling me about nightmares she had I told her about lucid dreaming and I got back into it and joined up here. I havent had any lucid dreams since joining here but when I do I hope I can remember to push it beyond those basic powers like teleporting and flying and telekinesis
