Dream Recall vs. Lucidity: Which way do YOU lean?

      Hey All,

As I've been reading other people's DJ entries I have noticed something I had assumed may be incorrect. For me, the more lucid I get the better my dream recall. It seems that some people have a nack for getting lucid, but then they only write down a sentence or two....which is not the case for me, at least for a non-induced lucid dream....when I am trying to induce I will get those flashes of brief lucidity. Other times I read long intricate entries will tons of minute detail, but no lucidity moments.

Just bringing it up: Lucidity and Dream Recall really aren't necessarily linked. You could have near perfect lucidity but no recall, or near perfect recall and no lucidity. Interesting.

Wonder why this is and also, why some people seem to be prone one way or the other. I am definitely a Dream Recall guy... I've remembered at least one dream per night since I've been back to DV...can't wait for my recall to return to where it was, probably will take me a month or so.

SO which way do you lean?? Are you more of a Lucid or Recall person??

I lean more towards recall as well. I love dreaming period, if it's a lucid then that is just a bonus. But as long as you have that recall as a base it is just really helpful. Some of my non-lucid dreams have been better than my lucids as well. So I guess I don't care what happens, as long as I remember it! But no, there are things I want to do with lucids too, but somehow I feel on some spiritual level that almost takes care of itself, as we aren't shown things until we are ready anyway.. and apparently it's a long road. It's not what you do but how you do it. Well that got deeper than I meant to but there you go.

Well, my recall is natural, so I guess I lean more to recall? Tend to remember several dreams/day since young, and tend to be lazy and kill detail so I don't write much in journals lol

Yeah, seems like most people lean towards recall. I wonder why that is, perhaps personality traits or some other subconscious detail of one's personality.

Waiting to see what the people who tend to be more on the lucid side have to say. Don't want to use this word, but it tends to fit, seems that people tend to be "naturals" one way or the other.

I lean more towards dream recall than lucidity. I've noticed that my recall has gone way up since I started a DJ a few days ago, although my entries are brief.

Keep it up OceanBlue!! don't get discouraged with nights without recall, as my initial experience was that at first it went up, then I had an ebb where i went days without, and then it went really up after that.

      Digging the new avatar btw!!

Thanks, Waving on oceans! I'll keep up with the DJ. It seems like I'm more likely to remember the dreams that occur right before I wake up.

Ever since I've started learning about lucid dreaming, and just being on Dream Views, my recall has gotten better. I went from little to no recall, all the way up to 1-4 a night. Also, I have been attempting WILD's and some other techniques and surprisngly my vizualization skills went up tremendously. Did this happen to anyone else? I haven't had a real lucid dream yet, so I am leaning more on to dream recall.

I see where you're coming from OP, just also remember that you might have the ability to get lucid every night, but without recall you won't even remember it happened.
I'd say it would be almost as redundant as taking a holiday to [insert your ideal location here] but not remembering a moment of it.

What I'm trying to say is that there might not be a link between the two, but in the absense of one the other is somewhat redundant. Just my two cents.

      Yea some awesome posts,

Being on the dream recall end, id say that eventually as my recall goes up I should be getting lucid more often (as I have experienced this is the case in the past) It would be awesome if I could develop it to where lucidity happens at a similar rate with recall, Id say I lean 90% recall 10% lucidity (taking into account that i assume I get lucid sometimes, yet have no memory of it)

Working to increase both, and to balance it out as well

I work towards recall as hard as I can.

Although, even doing that, none of my dreams have had even 20% of the detail my first lucid had, nor did I remember them even 20% as well. All my non-lucids are full of holes, while my lucid was a 100% complete story. I remember every second of it.

I can have very detailed dreams while not being lucid, but I most definately have holes in my non-lucid dreams.

Similarly, when I have a lucid dream it is so vivid and full of detail...I remember it (to what I believe is) fully and I often have the feeling of being more fully awake in those dreams when compared to daily awareness. (it has a natural exhilleration)

I think that if you lean towards recall, your ability to remember during lucidity goes way up. I would think that lucidity would natrually denote a good recall, but this isn't the case. I really trip when I see people who just tend to go lucid in their dreams, but then have trouble remembering....For me that wouldn't be the case.

Recall. I haven't had a 100% lucid dream yet. The closest I've had is like, I'll be in a dream, and be able to make some decisions with my own mind, but that's it. Recall is more interesting for me anyway, because I wouldn'tve originally thought to dream about that particular subject. If it's a total lucid dream, I feel like I would lose that element of surprise/getting to know my subconscious.

I would however like to start a dream as a lucid dream, but then let it go from there. Like choose a topic, then let the details fall where they may.
