      Different levels of Lucidity

Okay well I know there are various levels of lucidity and differences in what you can control in these dreams, but I'm still unsure about a dream I had. It was actually my first lucid dream or so (and prompted me to start a dream journal).

In the dream I didn't begin lucid, but along the way I saw my brother walk past me with giant feet, which tipped me off. (A DILD, right? ) At this point the character of me, or dream me seemed to realise it was a dream. In essense, he could then control the environment and things, just like a lucid dream, but I don't think I had control over what he did.

It's hard to explain, but I guess it can be explained in a comparison. Consider a non-lucid dream where you flew; technically you in your dream flew, even though you made no conscious decision to do it. I was sort of controlling things and summoning people, without the conscious decision to do it, I don't think. However, I sorta knew I was dreaming, and I even (consciously I'm pretty sure) spun around to maintain lucidity etc.

Would these be counted as a very basic lucid dream, or? ...

      Thanks guys

Lucidity and dream control don't necessarily go hand in hand... you can have either one without the other. Weird, I know.

Sometimes you know you're dreaming (that's all it takes to call it a lucid - just to know you're dreaming). Sometimes you can control your own actions or those of other DCs, or make things appear or disappear in the dream - WITHOUT being lucid.

Sometimes you have control and lucidity at the same time.

I think usually control happens in a lucid dream, but I've had a few dreams where I seemed to be able to control things without that feeling of knowing it's a dream.

You might have only been lucid very briefly, and then exercised some control in a non-lucid state afterwards. I don't know... only you would be able to make the call of course.

Ah yes true I guess there is a distinction between the two. I suspect I may of being briefly lucid, and that knowledge altered the course of the dream (I've been very interested in the topic and have lately immersed myself) causing me to exercise the dream control I so deeply desire...before losing lucidity anyway haha.

Still, my dream control wasn't that great - this is INCREDIBLY laughable but I think I briefly summoned a girl at some point, and after she rejected my advances, just gave up. I'll never forgive myself...

But I'm getting off-topic now. Thanks, at least I can call it Lucid, and try to determine how much was my actual idea, not the dude in my dream that looks like me but doesn't do what I want.. ;P

Ha, you got off easy then!! I've had much worse happen when I tried to get it on with DCs. There was a time years ago when I used to dream of taking girls in my arms and then they'd die, frozen in horror with an expression of disgust and shock on their faces, as if accusing me of killing them by just touching them. That was harsh!

When I discovered this site and was striving for lucidity I used to dream ABOUT lucidity all the time, and dream about having control. Hard to tell if I actually had any real control or if I just DREAMED i did. It can be so tricky navigating the waters of the dreaming mind....

Ouch...haha yeah that IS harsh, but hey, lucky if you're into that kinda stuff

Haha but hmm I THINK the girl I dreamt of, although at the time just an attractive female, was actually a co-worker of mine. I've never really looked at her the same; I don't think she likes me now..

But yeah, it was hard to discern between me controlling me controlling things, or just me watching me controlling things. Ah well, hopefully it improves

I suppose you can have dream control without being Lucid but it would be pretty rare to wouldn't it? like if i could control my dreams and do whatever i wanted I'm pretty sure i would realize its a dream, but i dunno

Nope. I have control in most of my dreams, but I have fewer lucid dreams than I have dreams where I have control. Gets confusing at times, but lucidity doesn't mean control - it just means you can have control if you want to. They're not the same.

Lucidity is not control; control is not lucidity.
Lucidity is awareness. Never forget it!

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

Right on, it's an odd experience.
