      Was I half lucid?

I've had a few dreams now, where I know I'm dreaming, but for some reason don't become lucid?
The other week in my dream I was dreaming and did a reality check, realised I was dreaming and thought to myself ''this is a dream, I am lucid'' but then I just carried on in the dream as normal, didn't make any attempts to control it, and soon forgotten I was even dreaming!
Then another time I keep telling my friends and family in my dream to reality check, incase they're dreaming, I often even reality check myself in my dreams, but still don't become lucid. It's wierd.

What am I doing wrong? :S

You are not backing up your reality checks with...uh....reality. The whole purpose of RCs is to differentiate dreams from reality. But if in real life, you do a reality check and don't concentrate on actually realizing it's a dream, you will do the same thing in dreams, you will do a reality check and think, " oh, I can still breath! No, it's just my imagination." and thus you wont become lucid. So be sure that when you do a RC, back it up with lots of awareness.
'The petals dance through the wind,
The crimson blood shimmers on the snow,
The shattered heart weeps of hidden sorrow.
And over a pure white sky,
      rises a black moon.'

      You were lucid.

The bottom line is Lucidity = realise you are dreaming

Control is just a possibility from lucidity. You CAN be lucid without control.

I think what you should do is first calm your mind, when you realise it is a dream. Just collect your thoughts, don't be dead exited, and don't loose focus.
Then try sitting down. Then have a little walk around. And then you should be ready to do some cool stuff.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.
