How do I become lucid if I am not in my own dream?

I've been having an increasing number of dreams lately where they are more in the format of a tv show that I am watching. Instead of actually being in the dream, I follow a main character around, which I can usually relate to a lot, in 3rd person view (sometimes they are even animated or are edited and cut like a real tv show).

This is incredibly interesting to me. Why am I dreaming as a tv show that I am not even in? And why the hell would it be animated?????

Anyway, is there any methods that I could use to turn this into a lucid dream, maybe becoming the main character. Since I am not actually in the dream, it would be impossible to do a reality check. One idea I have had was every time I am watching a tv show in real life, think about the show and ask myself if its a real show and if it makes sense. That way maybe one time when I am in one of these dreams, I can ask myself this and realize it's fake. It's kind of like an indirect reality check. So far I have not had the realization that its a fake show while dreaming. With a couple of these, I dont even realize its fake until I think about it and dont remember when I would have watched this show or the fact that I didn't even know what it's called.

      Any insight would be wonderful.

Realizing you are the camera can create space for your internal monologue and maybe help increase awareness/control. Practice cutting to a commercial?
