      A Naughty Ghost?

So I never really believed in ghosts or all that crap. In fact I don't really believe in an afterlife. But there have been some strange things happening recently.

I was in the lounge drinking some soda one day and suddenly my cup jerked upwards in my hand, spilling the drink all over me. I thought maybe my hand slipped. It then happened at least three times over a period of a few months. I thought maybe I had a shaking hand or something weird, but then my mother started to experience the same thing. Its as if someone hits your cup from under your hand. Odd.

Recently we also find that things we leave in places go missing. We'll leave something on a table, come back, and it'll be gone. After searching for ages and ages it will show up in the most obvious place.
Today I was doing a lot of tech crap. Booting my Clamshell through firewire, using a DVD cam as a DVD burner, partitioning and installing crap, and charging and fiddling with old gear. Suddenly I realized my pen drive was gone. I looked everywhere. It must have been in my bedroom! So I went in and checked around all of my computers. I looked all over my bed and fluffed a quilt that was at the end of it. I picked up all the chargers, and checked under the camera on my bed. I then turned around and said outloud "Honestly, if there is someone in here playing around with me please stop. I really need that damn USB drive," and as I turned around it was sitting there on my bed, right beside the camera I had just put down. Before this happened I checked everywhere (particularly my bed in case it went into the sheets) twice, and there it was, sticking out like a sore thumb in the open. I was stunned.

Conveniently ignoring the countless times people leave stuff in a place and still have it there when they return. I very rarely have to hunt for an item since I'm good at remembering where I put them. Apparently the art to defeating ghosts is to keep your house tidy and have a decent memory. Would have made Ghostbusters' jobs a lot easier.

And whilst I'm sure your spooky story sounds very impressive to any gullible person, you've never failed to notice an item right under your nose, which becomes extremely obvious when someone else points it out? Really? As for your dramatic "STOP MESSING WITH ME", sure, that sounds like something highly artificial added after the fact to make the story more interesting. Even if it wasn't, does the word "coincidence"mean anything? Out of all the people who curse the missing item, many of whom do not find it immediately, there are bound to be a few who do by simple statistics. Again, it's cherry picking.

As for the glass thing, no idea. No way of witnessing it and seeing if there's something you've missed, or if you have an unstable piece of furniture. But still, a nonsensical idea. "Whoooo, I'm dead, let's mess with this living bastard's glass". How egotistic can some people be. Yeah, someone lives on after death and all they care about is hiding your shit, and knocking your fucking glass out of your hands.

It never ceases to amaze me the ideas some people entertain.

This is a white USB drive against a blue bed. Its not something you miss, especially when you check in the exact place you found it twice. I ran my hand all over the bed in case I was just being blind, too.

What dramatic stop messing with me? I didn't scream it out loud. I just said to myself jokingly (as quoted above) "Honestly, if there is someone in here playing around with me please stop. I really need that damn USB drive," because it reminded me of a similar scenario someone was telling me about the other day.

I said it was in my hand, not placed on furniture. Sometimes this happens when standing up as well (although I suppose you could say it was loss of balance which could be the case).

Maybe my title was a little bit assumptive, but I personally don't believe in an afterlife. Of course it did really intrigue me we it went missing and suddenly reappeared. I am not clumsy, blind, or stupid, and nor are the the others in my houeshold who have experienced the same thing.
I won't bother to go into detail why a theory was created that there could be someone or something screwing with us since clearly you aren't seeing it from my perspective, but what I will say is I don't see why you are being so aggressive. Fair enough, the things in my post are strange and somewhat unbelievable and I can agree with that. But your use of language and rudeness is unnecessary and I am somewhat offended, not because you don't believe in my post (which I don't expect you to) but because you fire a very hostile post towards me and imply that I am making this up as if I enjoy lying about such things. Antagonist.

There are still more plausible explanations than ghosts. I would have to see what exactly happens for myself, but the cup can be explained by a muscle twitch (something completely unexpected and involuntary) and the USB drive can be simple forgetfulness. I run into similar scenarios frequently, but chalk it up to me just constantly forgetting where I put things. There is also the possibility it ended up under a fold on the quilt, etc.

It's all about how you read things. A few days ago, I discovered my driver side car door was opened all night (i mean, physically wide open), and nobody, not even me, could have opened it because I had locked it to begin with. The door even indicated it was locked as it was open. The best I can say was that I didn't close it all the way and a gust of wind blew it open overnight, but really, it's not immediately evident why it was open. But one thing I am confident it was not, however, was "ghosts."

I was thinking about that too. Before the USB drive appeared I flapped a the quilt at the end of my bed to see if it was in there. Its possible it then landed by the camera. I know for a fact the USB drive was not near the camera before this (so please, we can rule out accidentally not seeing it) but it does seem likely it was hidden in the quilt (as I was sitting there before it was missing) and fell out.

I don't understand the inductive step between 'strange things happen' and 'the physical embodiment of a dead person's soul caused the strange things to happen', could you please explain it to me?

It was a stereotypical assumption. When something appears to move by itself, most people will imagine its something beyond ourselves.

What loaf said. If you don't like this stuff, stay outta beyond dreaming... Loaf, could we get this moved to deep dreaming? It sounds like an interesting thread, but due to some people, I think a decent discussion here would be difficult

Thanks for your support. Although I think it is probable that it fell out of the quilt, so its probably best to put this case to rest.

I apologise for asking you to explain your logic.

I also apologise for being in BD, I genuinely thought this was in the Philosophy board for some reason; I'd never come here on purpose.

It was in the religion board, but as usual I don't read the fine print on the forums so it got moved.

I can't tell if your apology is genuine or not (I am not very good at telling sarcasm online) but I suppose it doesn't matter. I would probably tear a person to shreds if they posted anything like this.

      I've done that before.
Theres also that funny test with the dot that disappears! That could be the case too!

EDIT: Shit that video is amazing. But I was looking for the USB, not focusing on something else, and I ran my hands over the place it ended up appearing at.

I've noticed some people get very hostile. I think Loaf was just making a fun suggestion for a possible cause of his missing items and jerking cups.

      Good thread Loaf =]

Taken from the side of someone who DOES believe in ghosts (and I fully realize I can and will get ripped to shreds for this by the skeptics, I'm okay with that)...

It sounds like you could have a poltergeist. They are, essentially, playful ghosts. They like to wreak havoc on the lives of the living by misplacing objects or bumping people, etc.

I wanted to make a separate post / separate discussion for this video. But this video is why I'm expecting and okay with being attacked.

That said... I've never experienced a poltergeist. People I know have. I'm stating Loaf could be experiencing something that is like what describes a poltergeist, not suggesting that he is, or isn't actually experiencing that

sounds like something I have all the time. I too get the idea that strange things are at play as I can lose things in split seconds in plain impossible ways.

Its continued to happen in my house in different ways, oddly enough.
Someone in my family knew a lot of children that died when they were a child. Sometimes we wonder...

I personally never used to believe in ghosts, or should I say I was open minded to the possibility if someone could prove it. I have to say my belief in ghosts now is a lot stronger than my belief in a god or gods due to the fact there seems to be more evidence about (like witnessing good mediums such as Derek Ogilvie and Lisa Williams). Anyhoo to me it does sound as if you have a playful ghost. My advice would be to talk to it, whether or not you believe its there, and ask it to please leave you and move on to where it should go. At worst you will feel a bit silly and at best maybe these things will stop happening to you and your family. Good luck!

And to anyone who thinks its a load of crap, then you are entitled to your own opinion but just because you believe one way or another doesn't necessarily make it so.. if you can't be helpful or sympathetic then don't voice your opinion.

Nobody mind if you're skeptic, they just mind if you're skeptic and bitchy.

Great thread btw. Have you tried asking the "ghost" to do something obvious while you're watching?
