      psycho's workbook

I'm pretty new to lucid dreaming & the community, but when I was young I had a lucid dream before I knew what Lucid dreaming was. Recently, I've been doing DILD with aid of MILD before I go to sleep.

So far, I've had dreams where I realize that I'm dreaming but I either forget to stabilize or I panic a little bit which makes me wake up. Last night I fell into a hazy dream and remembered to scream "More lucid!" but I think I got too excited and woke up (with SP )

      My goals:
      to fly
      meet people
      explore places

      Reality Checks:
      Poking finger through the palm
      Nose plug

Also I was wondering if there are any other things I can do before I sleep to increase my chances of lucid dreaming, like meditation?

      Thanks!

Hello psycho. If you've been practicing MILD, have you noticed any dream signs? How's your dream recall, do you keep a dream journal? Read through Lesson 1 if you haven't done so already.

Meditation could help, yes. Mantras throughout the day and/or before bed would help too. Recognizing recurring objects or themes in your dreams (dream signs) would also help you attain lucidity. Practicing some sort of awareness would help you become more aware in your dreams as well (I recommend Sporadic Awareness Technique for beginners). Supplements and foods can help you achieve lucidity as well. OpheliaBlue mentions in Lesson 1 that drinking milk before bed can help to make you more aware in your dreams. How does it work? No idea, but I'm drinking milk regularly now! Certain cheeses can help people be more aware in dreams too. You could also incubate a lucid dream, look at this Daydream Awareness tutorial for some examples.

psycho, how many LDs have you had? Sometimes that excitement happens a lot to beginners. Once people get LDs a little more regularly, they get less excited and can stabilize the dream.

As for forgetting to stabilize the dream, try including that in your plans for your next LD. Thinking about and planning what your next LD will be like will help you remember what to do.

I always appear in my room when in my dreams, I don't know if that is common with other people or not. I try to record my dream in a notebook if I can remember. So far I've had 2 successful lucid dreams and many unsuccessful attempts at trying to become lucid in my dreams. I notice that when I wake up very early in the morning and fall back to sleep, I usually enter a vivid dream and thats where most of my lucid experiences have came from.

Also, what do you think about Melatonin as a supplement? I have some and just wondering if it could help increase lucidity?

      Thanks.

Oh totally. I have false awakenings all the time where I dream that I have awoken in bed. Fortunately I have learned to turn those into opportunities to attain lucidity, I think you can too.

When you became lucid in these instances, was the dream setting in you room like you mentioned before? Just curious.

I have found that melatonin and related supplements work amazingly on dream length, vividness, and recall. And as a result, the opportunity to become lucid in these longer, more vivid dreams increases. However I find that the effect wears off after a while, since the body becomes acclimated. That said, I find it still works if used every once in a while.
