      Talking First Lucid Dream!!

Just some quick background info: I've always been interested in my dreams, kept a dream journal on and off since I was a kid (though not recently) so I have a decent recall already. I looked into lucid dreaming over a year ago I think, but didn't have much success with it and kind of forgot about it.

BUT a few days ago (after seeing Inception lol, yes I'm one of them) I thought "Why can't I do that? Of course I can!" and attempted a WILD the night before last (after spending the day reading up on LDing). I'm not sure if I dreamed this part, or if it happened, but I "remember" falling asleep. Which sounds weird, but I remember feeling myself (or my body?) fall asleep, like the sensation of it. It was really cool, but I think it freaked me out, so I jolted awake (if it even happened I mean.. haha).

Last night was better though. I fell asleep attempting another WILD, but I woke up twice throughout the night and wrote down the normal dreams I could remember. Then a little after 8 this morning, I fell asleep and had a lucid dream! I was under my covers looking at my legs, and they were like shifting position and size so I thought to myself "I'm dreaming" and just calmly tried to get out from the covers without waking up. So I looked at the clock on my laptop a few times, and each time it was different (drastically).

Then I put my finger through my hand! That's the main thing I'm really excited about, because it was awesome- it was like putting my finger through a soft cookie or something lol. So I was like "yes, I *must* be dreaming..." Then embarrassingly enough the rest of the lucid parts of my dream involved Spike from Buffy and trying to get it on (I had trouble controlling even what I was doing though, nevermind him, so it was only partly successful hahaha), and then I ended up in a classroom and I guess I forgot I was dreaming and got sucked into what was going on there.

But anyway (sorry for the length) I'm very excited and hope this wasn't just like a one-time fluke. But the main difference between the last few days and when I tried last year was my attitude. Last year I *wanted* to lucid dream, whereas this time around I just thought to myself, "I *will* lucid dream" and really believed it just as a matter of course. So stop trying and just expect it to happen, I guess.

It was very very cool though, I remember just staring at clocks and text and everything and seeing it change. Well it was fascinating at the time anyway haha.

Congratulations on your first LD. You are very lucky to not wake up seconds after it starts because of excitement

Agreed, Interesting and funny Dream. Wow, Inception was real advertising for Lucid Dreaming huh.

On another note, Can any of you tell me the difference between a WILD and a DILD?
I'm a newbie too, but god all these abbreviations are kind of confusing!
I'm thinking of trying to get 'adopted' next month.

Congratulation Boadicea for your first lucid dream!!!

DILD : Dream Induced Lucid Dream It's when you realise within a dream that you are dreaming.
WILD : Wake Initiated Lucid Dream It's when you directly enter a dream from the waking state.

      Ah, Thank you.

By the way, your stats are very impressive. How long have you been mastering the art of Lucid Dreaming?
      Only a year?

      How did the WILD feel?

1 year and half to 2 years. But I did have lucid dreams when I was young especially nightmares. (Didn't know I could control dreams)
Hard to explain how it feel...Hardest part is Sleep Paralysis... For my part...

Thanks everyone! Man this site is really great

Blupaba: I know! I’m hoping it stays that way the next time-- fingers crossed!

Razeth: Haha yeah that’s the next step. I knew what I wanted to do in the dream, but getting it to happen the way I wanted was quite difficult lol. A little unwieldy for sure.

Nightingale: Inception definitely sucked me back in, but I think I wanted to see it so badly because it was about dreams and I’d been interested before. I think lucid dreaming advertised Inception for me lol. (And both were awesome! haha). And I’m still working my way around some of the abbreviations too (and because I’m so very mature, DILD always looks funny to me even knowing what it stands for lol).

      Merci reere and Mancon123!
