Ok, as i usually start with before i post an answer: I AM NOT AN EXPERT!!!!, this is what i believe to be correct! but may not be!

so, you have a dream journal, which is good. You should look through that, for Dream Signs. These are recurring themes in your dreams that you can incorperate into your RC's to maximize your potential to LD.

When you ask yourself "Am i dreaming" you are simply trying to build awareness. Performing a RC is a good thing, but what you REALLY want to focus on, is your environment. Is where you currently are a logical place for you to be. Is this a place you would find yourself on a day-to-day basis? Is there anything unusual about your surroundings? All of these questions help you build awareness that you are awake. The goal is to transfer this habbit over to your dream world, and becaome aware you are dreaming therefore ataining Lucidity. THAT is when you want to do a reality check, to make SURE you are dreaming. Also, if you blankly ask yourself "Am i dreaming" and look around without thinking about anything, you arent helping yourself. Your goal is to PROVE YOU ARE DREAMING. you want to view it as you are currently in a dream, not you are currently awake.

Excellent advice, Mincemeat! I just wanted to add that it took me two weeks before I had my first LD. Everyone's different, so it takes some people longer, but I think those of us who have to wait enjoy it so much more when we do become lucid.

As far as RCing, you can also ask yourself questions such as "Where am I?" or "How did I get here?" or "What am I doing?" If the answer makes sense, you're probably awake, and vice versa. Those questions can be a little more effective than the yes/no "Am I dreaming?"

If there's a method you're working on (MILD, DILD, WILD) and it doesn't seem to be working for you, try something else. Have you tried WBTB at all? It can be a pain to get out of bed (for a short time) in the middle of the night, but it does help put you in the right mindset when you go back to sleep. I had my first LD after doing that.

Don't give up and try to keep yourself from getting stressed out. Nothing kills recall better than stress, so just relax, enjoy the dreams you're having right now, and just look forward to what lies ahead. And let us know if you have any other questions.

Best of luck and sweet dreams!

I haven't had any "properly" lucid dreams, but the limited success I've had in the past was because I recognized some dream signs. Have you tried going through your DJ for indicators that you might be dreaming?

You also might want to try more than one type of RC during the day. I've seen other people say it's a good idea to have two just in case one doesn't work. Either way, two weeks seems well within the average wait for people starting out, so don't worry about it.

Seems to me like you're doing nothing wrong , just be patient. Keep trying different techniques though, and WBTB.
Try setting an alarm 5 hours into your sleep, try to stay awake for 5-10 minutes and go back to sleep, this will increase your chance of becoming lucid.
