1. How close was I on my initial WILD attempts without prior sleep?
Well, I'm not much of an expert on successful WILDs, but I've had a lot of trial and error, so I'll try to help
To my knowledge, WILDing is very, very difficult without prior sleep. The experiences you are feeling also happen to me when I'm deeply meditating. The swinging motion and vibrations, specifically. However, it's not unheard of, to have successful pre-sleep WILDs. They just generally aren't very good.
2. How close was I on my WBTB attempt?
It's hard to judge how close you were. But I can tell you that the attempt looked like a good by the book attempt, so I'd say you're on the right track. If I may suggest, that while counting is a popular method, it's actually not really one of the best ones. I find counting reminds me of how long I've been at the attempt, which is not something I want to know, lol. I'd recommend reading these two threads... http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/why-you-fail-wilds-96892/ and http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/how-wild-62282/ as two excellent guides on the do's and don'ts of successful WILDs.
3. I have a fan that blows on my face while I sleep, and it was on while I was WILDing, could this hinder my ability to WILD?
My question to you would be, does it hinder you from falling asleep in general? If not, then it shouldn't be an issue for WILDing. If it might become bothersome, you could use the fan as a transition aid. Either the air blowing on your face could be the wind from a field... or sometimes, you might start to hear talking or music evolve from the white noise of the fan, which an excellent tool for a successful transition.
