An Introduction and a few questions

Hey, the names Andy, you can call me Ydna, but Ydna is just Andy backwards. I've known about lucid dreaming for quite some time, but I never researched much about it. Until I came across a post on a forum talking about lucid dreams, and how to WILD. Ever since, I've been trying to WILD. Today was my first WBTB attempt, which didn't work out so great, but I'm gonna keep trying. Lucid dreaming is too intriguing to give up.

The first WILD attempt was very foggy, almost like it was me dreaming about WILDing. I remember trying it, waking up in a dream, knowing I'm lucid, and then waking up. It was all very blurry, and I disregarded it as a Lucid Dream. The next few nights, I've tried WILDing before any sleep, I can get to a motion feeling, maybe some vibrations, then it fades away. I think it is because I get excited, and that is the farthest I have gotten.

Then just this morning, I tried WBTB, went to bed at 12 am, got up at 6 am. I got up for about two minutes, then attempted WILDing. I tried the method of counting on the inhale, and seeing the number as well as the numbers next to it, then exhaling as thinking "I'm dreaming" while visualizing it. I had a lot of trouble not drifting off and thinking about other things for awhile, throughout though, my vision would get white, I'd get excited, and then it would go away. This happened two times. Then I counted to 200, and gave up. It was about a 30 minute attempt. Although I didn't LD, it was very relaxing, so I'm not complaining.

      Questions:

      1. How close was I on my initial WILD attempts without prior sleep?

      2. How close was I on my WBTB attempt?

      3. I have a fan that blows on my face while I sleep, and it was on while I was WILDing, could this hinder my ability to WILD?

To those who read the wall of text, thank you. And to those who will answer some or all my questions, thank you. I'm going to be very patient with WILDing, in hopes that I can eventually master WILDing. I think that it's hard to give up even trying to LD, because the thought of it is so interesting.

Well sir I read the text and I have to say don't give up because in a solid couple days or week you could be on your way to the dream world. I myself am pretty much in the exact same situation as you explain that method you used to me again?

It stand for Wake Back to Bed.
"The act of waking up after several hours of sleep, thinking about lucid dreaming, and then returning to sleep."
The actual definition (among others) is located here.

WBTB = Wake Back To Bed. IT's when you wake up after a few hours of sleep, and then try to WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) this is because after 5-7 hours of sleep, you're in the REM cycle of sleep, which is when you're dreaming. So most WILDers use the WBTB technique.

I can't post links, cause I haven't been registered for 7 days, but you can find it by going to "Forum-> Resources-> Tutorials-> Archive-> ◦WILD - The Guide To End All Guides"

I just read the guide again, and I was doing it a bit wrong. So tomorrow I'm going to attempt another WBTB, and make sure I do it correctly. I'm hoping an advanced member can post in here with some good advice.

Eh, just remember that there are no hard-and-fast rules for what is "right" and "wrong" when it comes to techniques. It's all subjective, and comes down to what works for you. Use the guide as a guide, but don't feel like a slave to it. Experiment and find what works best for you.

Ok. I'll experiment with different techniques over time.

      1. How close was I on my initial WILD attempts without prior sleep?
Well, I'm not much of an expert on successful WILDs, but I've had a lot of trial and error, so I'll try to help
To my knowledge, WILDing is very, very difficult without prior sleep. The experiences you are feeling also happen to me when I'm deeply meditating. The swinging motion and vibrations, specifically. However, it's not unheard of, to have successful pre-sleep WILDs. They just generally aren't very good.

      2. How close was I on my WBTB attempt?
It's hard to judge how close you were. But I can tell you that the attempt looked like a good by the book attempt, so I'd say you're on the right track. If I may suggest, that while counting is a popular method, it's actually not really one of the best ones. I find counting reminds me of how long I've been at the attempt, which is not something I want to know, lol. I'd recommend reading these two threads... http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/why-you-fail-wilds-96892/ and http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/how-wild-62282/ as two excellent guides on the do's and don'ts of successful WILDs.

      3. I have a fan that blows on my face while I sleep, and it was on while I was WILDing, could this hinder my ability to WILD?
My question to you would be, does it hinder you from falling asleep in general? If not, then it shouldn't be an issue for WILDing. If it might become bothersome, you could use the fan as a transition aid. Either the air blowing on your face could be the wind from a field... or sometimes, you might start to hear talking or music evolve from the white noise of the fan, which an excellent tool for a successful transition.

Thank you answering my questions. Yea, I fall asleep with the fan, so like you said, it shouldn't be a problem. I'll definitley read through those guides. I'm not really expecting a WILD pre-sleep, it's basically just practicing, and getting used to the feelings, getting rid of the excitement that can stop the onset of SP and HI, and maybe, just maybe, I'll end up WILDing pre-sleep. Now time to read those guides...
