      yoooo

yo, im new obviously and i have some questions. i had a lucid dream two days ago and i wasnt trying to induce a lucid dream, i had previously looked at it before and i had wanted to do it for a while but i stopped trying and this was a complete accident. it was a normal dream and everything (something about these twins who wanted to adopt me or something) and then all of a sudden this awesome song started to come on (it was like japanese or something i think because i was up late watching naruto) anyway as this song was playing i started to feel really weird and imagined myself about to fall/swim up into water, it was like i was falling down onto water in reverse where my body would be in water. i decided that as soon as i hit the water i would start to fly which i did, it was amazing. when i woke up i realised i had full control of my dream and that i had a lucid dream. last night i wanted to do it again so i completely focused on it and at about 6ish AM i was thinking about these southpark characters and all of a sudden i got this weird feeling like i was being ripped out of my body, there was these loud crashes and everytime they banged i got pulled out a bit, when i woke up i was breathing heavily and stuff and just before i read on wikipedia about lucid dreaming and the experience was best described as a WILD thingy. i really enjoyed the first experience but the second time was extremely scary and i was just wondering if it will be like that for the next time?

It does sound like you have have been experiencing what's known has hypnopompic hallucinations (hallucinations as you are waking up). Does it happen every time? I guess it depends on the person. It seems like this was a first time for you, so it's a safe bet that it probably won't happen again (or it might, but not for a while. It's hard to say).

They can be totally freaking when it's unexpected, but now that you know about them, you might also find it really cool the next time

      Welcome to DV!

nah this was the first time this kind of stuff has happened to me. also about half way through this year i had this stress attack thingy and i thought i was going schizophrenia and ever since then i have been having moments where i just stare and wonder if stuff is real (not trying to be real or anything but i guess it was kind of like doing reality checks but for a different cause instead of trying to lucid dream), do you think that might have contributed to having this experience?

That's a little bit out of my knowledge, being just a regular old dreamer like every one else. I can't say with certainty that these moments of wondering if things are real or not would be directly related to having hypnopompic hallucinations. My guess would be no, but perhaps maybe they were related to the stress attack itself? I guess it all depends on how along ago, or rather how close together the two events occurred.

serenity, hypnapompic hallucinations happen at times after you wake up, hypnagogic hallucinations happen before going to sleep, just thought I should let you know.

Yes... I brought them up because sigel wrote:

It's the physical sensations, and the auditory hallucinations. They are a lot like what we experience when we enter sleep paralysis on the way into a dream (which is what one would experience when attempting WILDs). But we also experience hallucinations when passing through N1 phase of NREM sleep. You pass through N1 both when falling asleep and waking up.

It seems as though sigel may have woken up prematurely upon discovering he was dreaming, which is why I thought it might be HH of the hypnopompic variety.
