      howdy

Hey guys just thought id introduce myself. I found out a year ago about lucid dreaming and was to lazy or busy to really get involved in it. Now however i have a really strong motivation to learn or get better at lucid dreaming.
I used to have extremely vivid nightmares when i was a kid and could remember them pretty accuratly, some even to this day just from memory. This past week ive been keeping a dream journal, after i had this one particular nightmare that was probably one of the most vivid ive ever had.
Im sort've confused at how you get started to lucid dream or have some control over your dreams, as theres so much info out there. Ive read that the first step is to keep a dream journal. Does having vivid dreams help to lucid dream? Also how do you make yourself aware that your in a dream, ive read of rc's but im usually so involved in a dream or if i have an instant where i think im dreaming i forget it and continue on with the story of the dream so to speak.?
      Cheers.

      Hi! Welcome to DV!

Reality checks are something that you want to do often, throughout the day. A good technique is to make a list of times you will to an RC. Ex: the first time I see a red flower, the first time I look in the mirror, the first time I see a red car, the first time..... etc. Change up the list every day. You should definitely check out the reality checks tutorial found here.

Good luck, and again, WELCOME TO DV!

Keeping a dream journal is the most important part of lucid dreaming, because it improves your dream recall. No use to get lucid if you can't remember it happening.
Awareness is the key to lucid dreaming. Such things as meditation, reality checks etc. improve that. The thing with reality checks is not to just do a reality check, like checking the clock or counting fingers but actually questioning that are you dreaming.
Over time the habit of doing reality checks might appear in your dreams and you do a reality check, becoming lucid. Although most lucids start with you just realising you are lucid without any RC. (So I hear, anyway.)
      Lucid dreaming goals:

Fly( ) Tame a recurring wolf that has been in about 10 different dreams/nightmares ( ) Fly on a Night Fury from HTTYD ( ) Ask my subconscious why I have so many nightmares ( )
Fight agent Smith ( ) Ride a huge spider to a battle against a beenest ( ) Face all of my nightmare creatures and beat them ( ) Be a god ( )

Will be doing rc's regularly now, i also read about dreamsigns, just gotta keep up with the dream journal. Seems like consistancy is key.
      Cheers thanks everyone.
