I didn't know what happened to me had a name...Lucid Dreaming

I've had lucid dreams before. I don't know how many but at least 10. I've had them throughout my life but I didn't know until today that there is a name for it, Lucid Dreaming and that there's this whole world of people who are as interested about this as I am. Tonight is the first night I will be going to sleep with the knowledge that Lucid Dreaming is an actual thing.

When I'd tell people about how I sometimes know I'm dreaming in my dreams they say it's never happened to them and I thought that was odd because I thought it happened to everyone. I haven't had a lucid dream in awhile but now that I know about it and about dream recall I'm hoping that someday I can test out dream walking. This is so fascinating to me and could open up a whole world full of new information.

I've also been able to control dreams throughout my life as well...its weird, looking back on it I now realize I started out by just controling my dream but not knowing it was a dream or by knowing it was a dream but no controlling it and then later the two kind of melded together. I hope I lucid dream tonight.

Also, I have a question, not sure if I should ask it here or not: How come my dreams never look realistic...ever...I hear people talking about how their dream looked so realistic they thought it was real...I've never had a dream look real. The colours are always different than in real life, buildings don't look right, or things don't feel real. It just never seems real. Even when I don't think or say "this is a dream", it still doesn't look realistic. A lot of times pieces are missing or changed. I can't see too far into the distance. Also does anyone know what it means if you go blind in your dream? That's happened to me a few times. If there's a different place I'm supposed to ask these questions please tell me where.

Ah, natural LDer, thats cool, welcome to DV.
Also, it depends for people on how real their dreams seem, maybe you just need to stabilize to get there. And blind, do you wake up soon after or continue the dream? If its the first, then it might as well be your REM cycle is ending and you have to wake up, if the second, then I have no idea.

The second...one time I went blind and was super pissed (in my dream) because I was lucid dreaming and was like "dude now I can't go on adventures 'cause I'm blind and can't see anything." So, I created a couch with my imagination and felt around for it, laid down on it and just slept (in my dream) until I could wake up.

      Hello. Welcome.

Some dreams can look unrealistic, I think that about normal dreams there is nothing you can do. But, if you are lucid in a dream, try to stabilize it, for example: Rub your hands, looks around you, touch the ground, walls, grass; listen to the sounds at distance, smell. Everything that contains sensations like touch, smell, etc, will help you stabilize the dream and things will look better.

I'll have to try that. Hopefully I can lucid dream sometime soon.

I had a really short lucid dream last night and I tried the hand thing and it kind of worked! My hands looked so real, that has never happened before. And the person I was talking to looked so real too. The surroundings didn't look as real but still it was so weird looking at my hands and touching the ground and stuff, I can't believe I actually remembered and was able to do that.
