      Remembering Dreams

Hey Guys , Im new to Lucid Dreaming. I tried it for a few days now but had no success. But I heard that a key to LD is the ability to remember your dreams? But there is a problem. I cant remember my dreams though I could remember 1 dream a few days ago but not very clear. When I wake up I try to remember my dreams but I just cant remember them ;( Its kinda like I remember that I was dreaming something but not WHAT ! Any help?

Start a dream journal and write down anything you remember, even if it's just one word. If you dont remember anything, write that down.

It helps you by teaching yourself to remember your dreams. When you wake up, immediately write down your dream in your DJ or try to remember your dream. DJs are a great tool used by professionals and the non-experienced.

Hi there and welcome to DV!

      So. Dream recall.

Keeping a dream journal is extremely important for many reasons. I know it sounds tedious and annoying. Here is why it can help:

When you sleep your brain has basically got this built in dream-eraser thingy. Okay, so you wake up. You move around. You get up. You may have remembered your dreams while you were still lying in bed, but as soon as you get up they're almost completely gone. You'll be lucky if you remember anything at all. Keeping a dream journal sort of trains your brain and gets you into the habit of consciously remembering your dreams. If it wasn't for keeping a dream journal, I would have never built up the amazing recall that I have today.

Sometimes you just can't remember anything. This is not so. I'm sure you feel something when you first wake up. Your first dream journal entries may just look like, "I was feeling panicky," or, "I was feeling like I had to find something." One of my first dream journal entries was, "green apple, sitting on a silver platter. There may or may have been red cushions somewhere." Even if you don't remember anything at all, the process of consciously trying to remember first thing in the morning will increase your recall.

The other great thing about a dream journal, is you can outline what your dream signs are. Say you have dreams where you are always by a river. You can use that dream sign to do a reality check every time you go to a river, see a picture of a river, or someone mentions the word river. It's up to you how you want to do it, but it is a really great tool to have to aid you in lucid dreaming.

Another technique that you can try, is trying to fall asleep while your mind is still conscious. I've had amazing success with this, although not everyone does. Basically, you keep your body completely and utterly still. Lay like this. You will literally be able to feel your body fall asleep. Your body will send pains and itches at random. Ignore these. Your body is trying to test whether or not your brain is still awake. About 20 minutes into this you should start to see what is called hypnagogic imagery. And then progress to the rest of your sleep.

While you do this, count to keep your mind active with a mantra inbetween. Example: 1, I am dreaming, 2 I will remember my dreams, 3 I am dreaming, etc... Also repeating this mantra when you go to sleep can just help with reminding yourself to remember your dreams.

Good luck and please feel free to ask me any questions that you have, in this thread or via PM

I know this technique and I was trying it for some nights now and I get to sleep paralysis very quick but I cant fall asleep.Dont know why but it feels like my heart beating very fast like when you are exited But I started the dream journal yesterday ! I wrote down my dreams for the last 3 days because I remembered these (1 day I remembered a dream and 2 days not) and today I could remember 1 dream vividly. But it felt like I woke up immediatly after it so it was the last dream... maybe I was lucky.
