      Dream Guides

      Hey everyone.
I'm a bit confused about dream guides. Obviously they guide you trough your dream, but are they real or just your mind using a DC as a way to tell/remind you of something? What's your opinion about dream guides?
Has anyone ever had any contact with theirs? And is there any certain way to summon it directly?
The reason im asking is that I've tried to contact mine a few times but im thinking that what Ive experienced isn't what I had hoped for. I know there's a tutorial or a forum about this but I couldnt find it :/

      Thanks a lot though.

This is a very contraversal subject and it does not fall under the religion catagory unless you believe it to be a religous thing. Some people believe it to be a special Dream Character and others believe it to be a seperate entity all together. I haven't had any experience with DGs but I have had experience with these kinds of threads, this will probably turn into a flame war.

I've been lucid dreaming naturally for 10+ years. This forum introduced me to the concept of Dream Guides 6 years ago, and since then I have made many attempts at contacting mine, each time resulting in a meeting with a new individual. Personally, I believe that the "Dream Guide" is simply a concept and manifestation of your unconscious (incorrectly referred to as subconscious). I do not believe that it is some "entity" or spirit guide meant to help you in your dreams. If it was, then why would mine take a hundred different forms and give me a hundred different answers to the same questions. It just doesn't make any sense to me, and somewhere in my mind I always realize that I'm just conversing with myself at a deeper level, not an external being. But of course, to each his own.

That said, I do think it is still very useful to attempt to contact your DG...if nothing else, it is an interesting experience and a rare chance to converse directly with your unconscious mind and learn information normally hidden from your conscious.

Ramanujan is the name of a famous intuitve mathematician from India. He was able to come up with formulas and equations that were far beyond his training. When asked how he was able to accomplish these feats he said that he received the information in his dreams. Namagiri, the Hindu Goddess from Namakkal, came to him in his dreams and gave him the equations.

That is a nice story, and meaning no disrespect, but what's your point? You haven't registered an opinion on the question posed by the OP. I could actually use your example to either argue for or against the existence of DGs.

No, this will not turn into a flame war. We're having a civilized discussion in the Newbie Zone...this isn't in R/S, Philosophy, or Science and Math. So don't you fret, and stay on topic.

Ah, DG's...kinda like Nina, mine is (for now) a shapeshifter of sorts. Whenever I see her, I have a tendency to pick up a weird vibe, then fall in love. The vibe is so utterly bizarre and out of place that I can't help but wonder if there actually is more to my DG than my sub/unconscious mind. The fact that I only seem to fall in love with the strange-vibe-women, and not any other DC, no matter the circumstance, seems all too suspicious. Naiya's experiences with her DG, Scott, only convince me more that my DG is something or someone else more than just a specialized DC. Of course, I have no proof that this is the case, and trusting in my loose personal experiences may be foolish at this point, but quite frankly, I don't care. I connect with my DG on a level that I have never reached with any other human being. I am doing everything in my power to track down my DG and confirm her as the entity with the strange vibe.

No, she seems to prefer taking the form of regular human females...really hot ones. But she did look like Miharu from Girls Bravo for a bit.

      Hello and welcome to DV!

      So. Dream guides.

I actually got into lucid dreaming because I met my dream guide. It was a few weeks after I quit smoking pot. I soon after began having the most intense dreams of my life up until that point. I had a dream that I was walking through a large green field, and up ahead there was a white stone tower. I counted ten steps as I walked up the stairs, my feet slipping in and out of the stone. When I went to knock on the large wooden door, a man answered. I came in and we had tea. In that first dream he took me to an underground kingdom hidden beneath the pyramids, and took me flying all over the world after we had been sucked through a vortex.

I still end up at the stone tower randomly without meaning to get there. He always looks exactly the same, and does not change in any way.

This was two years ago. I still regularly see him in a lot of dreams. His name is Anashnu. I have no idea where that name came from, I can't find any references to it on the internet (except for some song with the name Anashnu in it that I think is sung in hebrew).

Anyway, he definitely has guided me through a lot. I think I view him as more of a spirit guide who happens to be my dream guide as well. He shows up in the randomest places too. One time I was trying to astral project, and his face appeared and he told me to stop because I wasn't ready. Stuff like that.

I have no idea if he exists only in my mind or not. But is that not real as well? From what he has told me, he lived in ancient Egypt and no longer had a need for a physical form. He said that our spirits are connected on a very deep level.

Oh yeah. Before this, I didn't really do the whole spirituality thing, and certainly wasn't looking for something like this. I didn't know what lucid dreaming was and I didn't know what dream/spirit guides were. He just kind of appeared one night... so basically, I wasn't trying to "manifest a guide." Hope this helps

      Aquanina,
I tried to respond to you but got an error screen. Perhaps I said too much. I'll try again at a later date.

I agree with Aquanina on this. Of course everyone has their right to their opinion since nothing is proven with this topic.

Anyways, I view it as my unconscious mind speaking to me or guiding me. Except in my case it appears as the same person, a man named Sam. He has even gone so far as to tell me
that he is around to teach me how to control my dreams better. Its always an interesting connection I feel when he is in my dream, like we have this history together and a friendship
that I just can't remember the full extent of. Almost like a cross between a best friend and a childhood sports coach if that makes any sense hehe.

But yep, I think DGs do exist but it depends on the person as to how they manifest. For me it is one face/name but for others they may appear in 2, 3 or 20 different forms.

Aquanina is on the right track here.

When it comes to dreams, like reality, everything is completely subjective. Nothing that you perceive can possibly come from outside your mind. That's not to say that there can't be outside influences, but ultimately all of that is going to be processed and interpreted according to your individual schemata. The result: all information in dreams comes from within.

That is what I firmly believe based on everything I've experienced to this point.

Sorry if I've posted this is the wrong section >.<
And thanks for all of your answers. I guess I'm going to try and find mine a bit longer. Reading all of this, I'm starting to remember that at one point, apart from the other attempts to find my DG, he came to me instead of me coming to him. I'm ganna pull out the old journal and look through it. again, thanks so much for your replies. It helped a lot.
