      *taps mic* Hello...

      Well hi there! *waves*

What to say... hmm. I'm a 30s something female, I live in Germany but I'm not German.
For a few years now I've been interested in lucid dreaming, but specifically since I read Carlos Castaneda. I have always been interested in dreams and their meaning though.

Oh ya and I have a thing for owls. *shrugs*

Anyway, nice to sorta kinda meet you all.

Hi and welcome. The owl's medicine is great for lucid dreaming, as owls can see in the dark.

I lived in Munich for 2 years and my son was born in Starnberg.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Very nice to see that there are others out there that appreciate Owl Medicine too Owls have always been my totem, since as long as I can remember. I hope it will help me in this lucid dreaming quest in some ways!
IAmCoder - very cool that you lived here. Good to know there is someone in here who shared the same experience

I have been having trouble trying to get lucid, but after this past night, I think I know why. I was attempting to get at the goal the wrong way, or maybe not wrong, but more difficult way. I was waiting to become lucid in my dream. But each morning, I would record what I remembered of my dream from the night, and wonder why I didn't become lucid - I just can't seem to look at my hands, and no matter how strange the dream seems, it doesn't phase me.

This past night I was woken up at around 5:30am. So I went to the bathroom and then crawled back into bed, figured I would try a WILD since I felt fully rested. All I can say is WOW... that was an experience. A mixture of excitement and frustration!
Since I was a teenager I have had the skills to meditate - well actually, now I know that it's more like putting my body into sleep paralysis while the mind remains aware. So it dawned on me that I should try that and see if it could lead to a WILD. I don't know how to describe what happened... but I think I almost made it.

I think it started somewhere around "seeing" swirly bits of dark coloured smoke behind my eyes, then it felt like my vision was following one swirl, which was coming towards "me", which kind of pitched me into an inward sort of focus. Then I felt the buzz around my head (and feet actually) which caused some intense excitement, my heart started to pound and I felt like I wasn't getting enough breath. I knew that this feeling could shatter my attempt so I tried to tell myself to calm down and let go, and then there was a feeling of rolling - both into and out of myself. Unfortunately that is when my muscles started to tense up slightly, which stopped my transition
It happened again one more time, but there was noise in the room that stole my focus

So I am excited that I got so far on my first try, but frustrated. How do I get beyond that last hurdle?? Any tips would be welcome. I think part of the problem is that I was on my side, and that confused my body when it started to "roll", making my muscles tense. I think I definitely should be on my back next time.

My medicine is dreaming and illusion - Lizard and Dragonfly. I have them both tattooed on my shoulders, for over 10 years now. I was visited by Owl many times in the house that I grew up, and actually broke up with my first fiancé because I heard Owl calling late one night - and it spoke of deception. Which turned out true after I had pretended to know only because of Owl.

I grew up with most of Jonathon Parker's meditation tapes that I had inherited, and listened to them for years. I think you should keep up this practice as a calm mind and cultivated awareness can't hurt for lucid dreaming.

I think you are well on your way, and as for the last hurdle, all I can suggest is more experience. Keep up the WBTB and try to get into that state where you heart pounds and just breathe through it with deep breaths, until one day it starts getting boring, and you can stay calm enough to ride through it.

Though I am sorry to hear that your ex deceived you, it's really amazing that you and Owl have that connection. It's funny, if I had to name a second totem other than Owl, I would also say Dragonfly! When I was a young girl swimming in a lake, I had an experience with a beautiful bright blue Dragonfly that came right up to me while I stood in the water. I smiled and put out my finger, delighted because I always loved Dragonflies. It landed on me, resting for awhile. Ever since then I have been very attached. I guess it's not surprising that we dreamers are attached to Illusion.

I have designed my Owl tattoo as well and just waiting for my appointment. It's a wonderful way to keep close to your power animal, in my opinion.

Cool. The first time I met my dad in my teens, he told me to hold out my finger for a dragonfly to land on, and it also rested for a while. Since then I have only been able to repeat it once, so I had to write it off to chance. The river where I grew up, called the Crocodile River, although it has no crocodiles, is teaming with dragonflies and lizards (Nile Monitors).

Let us know if you get a high from the tattoo (from the pain)! Where are you planning on getting it?

Coder, we so gotta talk. I am seeing lots of parallels between us, and we both know that never happens by accident, no? I so wish I lived by that river you talk about, it sounds like something right out of a... dream! Lol!
I can't wait for my tattoo! But it sure won't be my first. I have a couple others. I do love the endorphin high, I think that is what makes tattooing so addictive. How many have you got? Would love to see them someday if ya feel like sharing!
