Dream within a dream and lucidity.

Hiya everyone. I've been researching the lucid state for a while now, and i've been pretty good at recalling dreams up to this point anyway, but i'm just starting out on the road to lucidity. I have had lucid dreams in the past - albeit accidentally - and they were simply amazing. The detail in the dream and the feeling of being 'awake' yet still dreaming is so indescribable.

I find, like so many others, that as soon as I achieve the lucid state, I either wake up or the lucidity slips away from me and I lose the detailed state of consciousness and slip into another dream state. But, practice makes perfect and i've came a long way from a few months ago. The feeling of the lucid state is enough to spur me on to get competent at achieving it.

I had a weird experience last night that I thought i'd share: I became lucid in a dream within a dream...

In this second-level dream, I used the reality testing method to achieve lucidity - in this second-level there was something that confirmed to me that I was dreaming, and suddenly I became lucid. I couldn't hold onto it however and I became too excited and woke up - in the original dream! I then explained to my dream characters that I just had a lucid dream, but it felt like "I" was having the lucid dream - not the "me" in the original dream if you get my meaning. It's like I bypassed the previous 2 dreams, achieved lucidity and became conscious, then returned to the original dream...

So weird and yet so interesting. No wonder I woke up!

Anyone else have any experiences like this?

I think this is called a false awakening, it's when you dream you are awake. I haven't had expiriences with it though (maybe in the past, but that was before I started to keep my DJ).

I had this exact same thing happen to me for my first time lucid dreaming. I heard of the movie Inception from a friend who got me interested in lucid dreaming. within a week or 2 of thinking about lucid dreaming, it happened. I was in my dream and decided to go to sleep. I wake up in a dream within a dream and something just felt off. I became lucid and tried all kinds of stuff like flying, turning invisible, going through walls. It all worked like a charm until I went to have sex. I woke up after that which was probably about 2-3 minutes into the dream. I woke up from my second dream into my origional one and tried to tell everyone. They didn't care and I got frustrated then I woke up for real. The lucid dream was by far the most vivid dream I can remember.
