I've been researching and actively exploring the many layers of the subconscious for over 20 years and lucid dreaming does not happen every time, but the best method of encouraging it involves much relaxation, physical comfort and the ability to blank/purge your mind of thoughts ( even subconscious thoughts and trust me you have them even though you are unaware of them ) the daily grind or accumulation of "crap" ( problems, wish lists, stress, things to do, sexual desire, depression, frustrations, etc, etc, etc ) and also the ability to fall asleep slowly and in a controlled manner.
This takes practice to do.
I suggest practicing deep relaxation techniques, blanking your mind to begin setting up your mind for influence free lucid dreaming ( as usually any sort of thought will take you to that when you first start to dream, I however use this method for specific dreaming e.g. If I want to dream about climbing a mountain I will lightly invision myself doing that while falling asleep thus it will translate into my dreams and carry on from there where my immagination will take over thus I will be climbing a mountain in my dream/s )
Falling asleep slowly helps to control lucid dream state and also helps to remain conscious in your subconscious lucid dream thus allowing you to control your dream and do whatever you desire which is the really cool part.
so practice practice practice !
You would be surprised what you can do if you actively persue diving deeper and deeper into your subconscious mind and the many many layers of it, but it can also be very scary and disorienting at times and take some getting use to so just a FYI
P.S. ditch all the theta wave, beta this and w.i.l.d thaT crap, it's just that , and a total mis guide. With those methods you are trying to "force" a sleep state hence why they don't work. You want to set up your mind to encourage and invite a sleep state not try to force it.
