yes its real. try the mnemonic induced lucid dream method. it has worked best for me.
first you must get your dream recall going. once you are able to remember several dreams you have had each night you are ready to move on to trying to become lucid.
also. get on a regular sleep pattern (go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day) not only is this healthy, but it will help you in your hopes to become lucid.
keep trying and don't give up!
also.. if you smoke weed. stop. it reduces how much REM you get when you sleep and will make even remembering your dreams very hard, because you won't actually be having any. look it up if you don't believe me. several tests show its true.
      hope this helps.

Increase your awareness in daily life. A few times a day, take a minute to really question what's going on around you(don't just do mindless reality checks), and ask yourself if whats going on around you and such makes sense...really question hard if it's a dream or not

Also, just thinking about LDing a lot can actually help quite a bit.

edit: Also don't be discouraged. It took me over a year to start having LD's on a semi-regular basis(now I'm averaging about once a week since a few months ago)

      ok.
      not smoking weed = good!
also try meditation + circular breathing while you fall asleep or before you go to bed. this combined with the mnemonic technique will help a lot. but first things first. keep a dream journal and get your dream recall up!

Thanks for all the help guys! I am really looking forward to LDing, and maybe one day, even dreamwalking.

oh.. and one more thing. this goes hand in hand with what COLnop said about raising awareness. before you go to bed.. run through your day breifly but thoroughly from start to end. i.e. "i got up. took the bus to school. went to a friends after school. came home, ate, did some homework, and here i am".. it is a good brain excersize and also when you are dreaming. you may become lucid by realizing that you have NO IDEA how you got where you are. it works!

K, this is all helping a lot. The only excercise i really knew before was drawing an A on ur hand for "awake", and doing a reality check whenever you see it, so that you get used to it and start seeing it in your dreams.

Nope not real, this is just a big forum filled with jokes about how cool it would be to have something called lucid dreaming. In fact lucid actualy means elephant butt.

      Just kidding,

of course its real. I would start with reading the tutorials that are in the WIKI and doing as many reality checks a day as you can. MILD works great for many people including me.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

Thank you Dakotahnok... I needed to see someone say something like that in response to this topic.

Yes lucid dreaming is very real.

Try DILD (Dream Induced Lucid Dream) This is basically realizing a dream sign then becoming lucid from that. You will need to work on dream recall. This is simply remembering dreams after you wake up. If you don't have good dream recall, I suggest getting a dream journal (where you write down all your dreams).

Also go to the site wiki and read up on some tutorials.

How dare you!!!! Lol, nah but it actually depends on the person. I suppose the general assumption would be that weed suppresses REM, but that is not always the case. I would be living proof. Of course, it could have to do with the fact that I smoke everyday, several times a day. I've never had a problem with weed affecting my chances of lucidity or recall, but I suppose everyone IS different.

It is real. I had results within a month after intensive dream journalling. Although it happened only once and it was short, I was in control and did reality checks with hands. Hand through hand and moving your hands about while looking at your palms which will make it seem like your fingers are changing their positions on your hand. Unfortunately since I started working again I couldn't find time to properly write dream journals and it's all a mess now. Mostly I try WILDing but unsuccessfully as I get excited just as SP starts to set in. So I never really had proper SP as I always broke them with my concentration. What I suggest is be consistent, talk to people here, listen to all the good advice above and believe. Also don't try too hard as it can all come naturally just conciously know that you CAN do it. And it is a thing that is achievable. Also before you go to sleep, eat some peanuts and browse the forums. Good luck
