      Question Old dreamer. New focus.

I have been reading through this site for a few days, and I have been working on developing a personal method to induce LD's. I was not sure that I completely understood the concepts of attaining lucidity, but I found a great thread called How to WILD, by BillyBob.
(Sorry there is no hyperlink. It won't let me put one because I'm a new user.)

After reading that last night, I got closer than I ever have to becoming lucid. The only problem: I think I may have had a false awakening or something of the sort. I came to a point in my dream where this person had to leave, and I was disappointed, but then the dream started to fade and it was dark. I thought to myself 'It's a dream you can make them come back.', but then I said 'No you can't. You aren't asleep anymore.', yet I never opened my eyes because I was trying to chase the dream. In the end I fell back asleep, and they never came back. When I woke up I was pretty sure that I never actually woke after that dream, and I think I had a false awakening.

Are there any methods that help you to realize you are indeed still dreaming? I've been trying to LD for a few years, and this seems to be a major hurdle for me. I keep reaching the point where I am conscious, yet I tell myself I'm awake when I am indeed dreaming.

LucidEnigma...try the methods below first...and accept my friend request so I can keep tabs on you!! ::

Meditation is the act of calming your mind and focusing on an object, place, or thing. If you want to learn how to meditate, googling it is the best option to find out what works for you. I suggest googling something like, "meditation techniques" in order to pick the best option.

What works for me is listening to "trance" music. It is usually instrumentals and no talking in it.

      Some meditation techniques include:
      1) Sitting in a cross legged position or comfortable position for 30min, focusing on a happy place or thing with your eyes closed...
      2) Walking meditation:: walking meditation is where you focus on walking in a line back and forth and focusing on a "happy" place or thing. This is similar to pace-ing...for 30min...eyes open of course!
      3) Listening to trance/instrumental music

These are the three different techniques I have tried that work for me. Try them and let me know how it goes!

      Sincerely,
      ~Icy

You really need to start Reality Checking. Do it everytime you wake up, no matter what. Being on the border of dreaming is a very cool state, but you lose consciousness or lucidity easily if you go into a dream. When you've just exited a dream, don't think that there's no hope. If you haven't moved when waking up you can always enter the dream again by just relaxing. DEILD works great after a lucid, and many lucid dreamers do it to let go of blurry LD's to enter more stable ones.

Also, I usually meditate and when I do, I just try to keep my mind blank. I focus on my breathing and imagine inhaling bright light, and exhaling black smoke. Filling yourself up with happy emotions with every breath in and removing stress and stuff like that with every breath out. This is all you need, basic meditation

      Good luck!

Hey thanks man. Meditation is definitely something that would benefit me immensely, for I have a lot of stress in my life currently, but sometimes it seems hopeless because I usually lose focus. I would like to find a meditation group because I think it would help me stick with it.

Thanks for the meditation tip. I think it will help me to focus more on clearing my mind.
