Hi and welcome to DV! I don't think that was beginners luck. If you've had them naturally, then they should come more easily to you, so believe in yourself! If you think it was all you, then it will be even easier convincing yourself you will get lucid next time
As for doing things in dreams, I suggest you take an hour and think about what you want to do. Set a firm goal and you shouldn't have any problems when you're in them. Stabilizing is a great first thing to do, and after making sure the dream is stable, just move on to your second goal.
Dream recall takes some time to increase, but with daily practice you should notice an increase pretty soon. Just keep on writing in your DJ, lots of details is good. If you write them as stories you can always relive the awesome dreams you had later on by just reading To recall as much as you can, you have to lie completely still during the morning when you wake up. Shut your eyes after turning off any alarms and just let the dreams come to you. You can also "search" for them, by trying to evolve certain thoughts you might have in your head. A single picture can be enough to recall an entire dream.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!
