Hi BuzzmFrog,
Congratulations with the LD's.
Firstly, you are doing nothing wrong. In fact, to be able to do RC's already in a dream is a major positive step towards control. Control takes time. It is important not to try too hard or excited as you can wake up, or have a FA.
You have to remember the dreamworld has different rules to the waking one - we, when learning try to carry these rules (from reality) of how things should operate when we are lucid.
One thing you could try is saying what you want to do out loud. Tell the dream what you want to do - but one step at a time.
My experience in one dream was I realised I was dreaming & suddenly I couldn't see properly, except for this grey fog. I had read on this site about someone using a pair of 'dream goggles', so I used these in my dream & it worked.
So be willing to try new things. You will get new problems & challenges whilst lucid dreaming as your subconscious tries to trick you back into the dream again. (It does try this with me!)
lastly keep a dream journal to help you recall dreams - even 'ordinary' ones, as they all help.
Regards,
RobStar
