      Basic Question About Dream Signs

Okay, so it's been years since I had an LD and I just started trying to pick it up again about 3 weeks ago by starting a dream journal and trying to spot my dream signs. So far I've found that my mom is in every other dream I have. My question is, does my dreamsign have to be out of the ordinary in order for it to trigger consciousness in my dream? Because I obviously see my mom every day. So it's not really out of the ordinary when she's in my dream.

I also haven't really spotted any consistent dream signs. This is the only consistent one.
      Thanks.

I think what matters is to keep practicing in order to create a new habbit of questioning whether we are in a dream or in waking reality. In my opinion the habbit of questioning is far more important than identifying personal dream signs. As for me, I have reccurent dream signs which are absurdly striking but still unable to trigger lucidity. What I mean is if we keep recording dream journals or practicing induction methods we will end up acquiring a new habbit of questioning reality and that alone should trigger lucidity. How long does it take to create a new habbit ? I don't know but it must be different from person to person.

I don't think it depends on how frequent your dream sign comes up, as long as it triggers your conscious to question reality.

Thanks guys. So how important is it that I continue to add dreams to my dream journal? Should I keep going with it or just start questioning reality more?

Questioning reality is far more important than figuring out dream signs - in fact, it's huge - along with awareness, it's the best thing you can do to induce a lucid.

I personally never use dream signs, but am still able to DILD. They serve as more of a reality check than anything else, so if you don't know your dream signs, big deal... just use a nose-plug RC or something instead. ^_^

As for dream journaling, it's fairly important, so you should keep using one. Some people are able to keep mental dream journals but many simply need to keep up the process of writing down or recording dreams - it helps cement them into your waking memory, and allows your dream memory to expand. As with your body, your memory grows stronger with exercise.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Personally, I think you should write in your Dream Journal every time you have a dream, immediately after you wake up, when it's freshest in your mind. Then you should also do Reality Checks on top of that. Honestly neither of those are difficult to do, only persistence is key here.
