      Yeah So I'm a Noob.

      Hey guys.

I'm thinking I might be interested in trying to LD again. Only problem is that I'm really really really really scared of sleep paralysis.

      How scary is it?

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

Hey, sleep paralysis is nothing to be afraid of!
In my opinion, sleep paralysis is what you make it to be.
If you expect to have a bad experience, then you might just have a bad experience.
On the other hand, if you look forward to it, and expect something good to happen, you just might get that outcome!
I have provided a link to a video below my post, you should go ahead and take some time to view it.
The video provided is an informational video made by Slash112, a Tech Admin here on the forum.
I hope it offers you some help, and understanding on the subject, good luck!

It's not scary at all, in fact it's fun. You can control the sensations that you experience just by imagining them. It's only scary if you have negative thoughts going into and expect it to be scary. It really isn't though, just some vibrations and weird noises normally. Just realize that it's all in your head and that you can't be harmed.

I don't see how its scary, in fact I find it relieving eg. "SP?! Time to LD cooool"
When I went into SP the few times I WILDed I didn't open my eyes but I definitely heard sounds crashing and such.
It's a fun break from otherwise a mundane and not always reliable DILD.
At the fork in the road I turned left while everyone else turned right..

      Lol nope. S.P is literally:

You're lying in bed. You heart starts beating faster, like you get when your on a rollercoaster climbing up that first hill.
Then you feel vibrations, which are about as strong as the vibrations you get through a rollercoaster.
Then you can't move, but you can still breath and that, and you don't really notice it on account of the vibrations and heart beating.

Then you sleep or it stops. That's it. If you are still scared now you are some pussy.

Why is there still this idea out there that SP is terrifying?

Also Origami, different people experience it differently, although from what I gather, most of the time it's not any scarier than what you described.

Think about it. Nightmares suck, but you're not afraid of sleeping. Why should SP be any different, especially when it tends to be much moreso interesting than frightening?

Still, S.P. is vibrations, loud noises like rumbling or buzzing, stiffness, heart rate goes up, and maybe a bit of cramping or feeling like gravity is off.

      That's S.P. in a nutshell.

It's only scary if you think it is. If you try to WILD, and say "OMG THIS IS GONNA BE SCARY" it will be, just do it, and don't be scared, there is nothing to be scared of. Not everyone experiences SP the same. nothing to worry about. Also, I don't have WILDs often, yet have almost had 100 LDs, you don't need to WILD to lucid dream

Why are you so terrified of SP? Bad past experiences? Or been talking to the wrong people?

Oh man, responding on my phone's gonna suck. To everyone that posted responses, thank you so much! I'm a lot less scared now. You're all the best! Second, erible, how the hell did you have 100+? I've not even come close!

Also Pan, I'm just really scared of hearaing weird things...it's weird

AND FINALLY, I think I did actually fall into SP today. I woke up early by accident so before I went back to sleep I tried to WILD. I was lying still forever, and nothing happened, but then out of nowhere and all of a sudden, my heart started pounding and i felt this delicious awesome vibration and my whole body felt like it was spinning and oh man it was freaking awesome. Then I kept doing math problems and saying I'm gonna LD.

Then, I swallowed. And it all went away.

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

Yeah, thats a bitch, swallowing. But even without swallowing, sometimes it just goes away doing nothing. So far for me anyway.

That was definitely S.P. And that's what it is: what you experienced is what S.P. is going to be like for you, forever.

Really? I didn't get into a dream though, nor did I fall asleep. Is that all that it's going to be?

Not necessarily. S.P. can end in multiple ways:

      1) Wears off, nothing happens, pain in the ass.
2)Fall asleep, enter dream, great success!
      3) Wears off, fall asleep, normal dreams, pain in the ass.

Don't think S.P. is a golden ticket to lucidity, but it isn't just a useless phenomenon either.

Sometimes you'll hear crazy shit...just reassure yourself that it's merely a hallucination and you'll be fine. No reason to be fearful.

Just like Pan said, don't worry about the sounds, just remember that it's all a hallucination, and nothing is to be scared of because its not really happening.

with swallowing, try not to think about swallowing, but don't think about not swallowing. When I meditate, after a while I realize I haven't swallowed the whole time, then bam, i get the strong urge to swallow. If you are having more trouble, try tilting your head to the side, and drool lol.

Haha I love how everyone says that SP can not be scary.

The fact is that some people do experience scary sleep paralysis. The can see images of demons and people. And all other kinds of scary shit.

You can also hear scary noises like whispering or growling. And sp isn't like a lucid, you cant choose what you see. (most of the time.)

Just think of it as the most realistic scary movie.

But that's just some times. Scary SP isn't really common.

So this one time my heart was beating so fast I felt like I was going to die, so I tried to wake myself up but I couldn't. When I opened my mouth to scream nothing would come out, and I couldn't move. These really intense vibrations started to set in, and it felt like my whole bed was shaking. Then I heard this horrible, maniacal laughter. Suddenly the hypnotic imagery kicked in and I saw these demented clown faces with black eyes, staring at me and laughing. I open my eyes and find myself in a forest 10 miles from my house, and I'm covered in animal blood.

But yeah, don't worry about that kind of stuff, OP. Remember, there's nothing to be afraid of...

Don't WILD. Do MILD like me and erible. I Can lucid at will with MILD. any night I want. And I'm sure erible could to if she tried.

How hard is MILD? Isn't it like, you tell yourself you'll have a lucid and go to sleep, hoping you get one?

It takes work. You have to practice and practice. And then practice again.

There is so much more to MILD than just saying and hoping.

And then. After the work you get the benefits of nightly ld's. (I'm still not at that stage,)
