For a total beginner I would suggest sticking with DILD. You can do this during the day and it doesn't require you to do anything extra during the night. You are new to lucid dreaming so I am sure you'll be thinking about it a lot. You are bound to get a DILD unintentionally

You can wake yourself up in a dream, I think there are some tutorials on that sort of thing floating around the forum. My favourite method would have to be closing your eyes are hard as possible.
Unfortunately, yes. Sometimes a Lucid Dream can go sour. But this is rare and it shouldn't be anything to worry about!
