      Better late than never...

      Hi everyone,

Okay, where to begin......I'm a little nervous being here because I'm a bit older than most everyone else on here. But at the same time I'm happy to be here and hoping that Dream Views and it's members will provide me the knowledge and support I need to make lucid dreaming a reality.

I'm 49 yrs old and have not yet had a lucid dream, mainly because until about a year ago, I knew nothing about them. And when I did find out, it was quite by accident. I was just driving home from work and listening to George Noory's Coast to Coast radio program.

Mr. Noory's guest that night was talking about out-of-body experiences (OBE's) which I found interesting, so I did a little research and started reading Adventures Beyond the Body by William Buhlman. In the book, it mentioned lucid dreaming as being a possible stepping stone to OBE's. Long story short, more research and now I am currently reading two books about lucid dreaming simultaneously: Lucid Dreaming - Gateway to the Inner Self by Robert Waggoner and Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge & Howard Rheingold.

I've started keeping a dream journal, even though I've always been able to remember one or two dreams pretty well every night. I'm also doing reality checks during the day and telling myself over and over before I go to sleep at night that "when I have a dream, I'm going to realize I'm dreaming". So far, though, no luck. So any tips or pointers that anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. I'm trying to prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

      Welcome to Dream Views, Pops!

And don't feel alienated. Some of our most beloved members have been 60+ years of age.

You've definitely started off right, working on your dream journal and reality checks. Just being more aware of your non-lucid dreams, in itself, is a great step toward lucidity. Have you tried the Wake-Back-to-Bed technique? For me, it's the most consistent method for getting me out of a slump.

Enjoy your stay, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask around.

Hi!I'm still new at lucid dreaming-only one dream so far.Well,my only tip is to have patience! At first I was so excited, but then I started getting frustrated after a couple of weeks of not getting one.But I kept at it,and after 2 months of trying,I finally had one.So if you have patience, you will get one eventually.Welcome to dreamviews!

Thanks. I'm sure with patience, I'll have one. I also read some tips on here about things that I've been doing wrong, like watching TV or being on the computer right before going to sleep. I never realized that could affect my chances of having an LD.
