      Dreaming and Study

Hi guys, I am new here but I have some cool ideas (or maybe they are lame ideas that seem cool to me because I am new). Anyway, I find that I never have enough time to study and I am wondering if anyone has experience of studying during a lucid dream. I know it sounds like a boring way to spend those precious hours of lucidity but if it is going to get me better marks I think it is worth it. So does anyone know if it is feasible to study during lucid dreams and/or have any advice on how to do it?

*Fixed* Hahaha you definitely win the coolest name award!!!

I can't answer about studying in a lucid dream, though I've heard it can definitely help in certain types of things, like practicing a skill or thinking about something that's been occupying your mind a lot while awake. The mind sorts through thoughts and processes ideas while you're sleeping, and it's known that many great inventions and ideas were conceived during dreams.

I checked your profile and I see you're a scientist interested in exploring the possibilities of the brain - that's a fascinating field that I'm very interested in (though I'm an artist, not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination ). I'd like to suggest a few recommendations:

1 Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Steven LaBerge. THE book on the subject. Most likely you've already read it.

2 The Mind at Night: The New Science Of How And Why We Dream by Andrea Rock Amazing book!!

3 Nova What Are Dreams? It's available through iTunes... TV Shows, Nonfiction, Nova Vol4 Ep3. Here's the trailer. This covers some of the same material from the book The Mind at Night and must be largely based on it.

Heh.. great, right? Here you just said you hardly have time for studying as it is, and I'm recommending books and videos!! Yeah, I'm good for that!

Books are great, but they aren't the only way, I've learned everything I know just from this site.
      Welcome to DreamViews.

Ah, but it's well known that the web isn't a great learning tool. It IS great for finding your way to the good info, but what you can actually read on the web itself, especially on message boards, tends to be broad but shallow. Understandably, people don't put as much thought or effort into writing a post on a message board as into writing a book.

I don't mean to knock my favorite site AT ALL!! Hell I LOVE this place, and like you, I've learned a lot here that I haven't seen in any books. What's great about this forum is that people who know a lot about LDing and experience it themselves get into conversations and can quickly compare notes and check each others' results... it's almost like a testing lab spread across the globe staffed by volunteers who love what they're doing. So yes, you most definitely can get a lot of info here that you can't get from books - but by the same token (opposite side of the coin) you can get info in the books that you don't get here except by people repeating it, which usually waters down the info and means you're depending on their understanding and memory.

So basically using both books and the web is a good way to get a more rounded learning experience.

Well thanks guys, everyone here has been really welcoming. I have been reading some stuff but I do not have a lot of time on my hands. These will definitely go on my to read list and I will eventually get around to reading them I hope.

In that case the video contains much of what's in the book (though the book does go into greater depth). So watch Nova and you can strike The Mind At Night from the list (at least until graduation... ).
