Bright dreams after adding "bright and clear dream" to mantra.

After getting help from Arch and Clear View, (thanks) and reading Dream Stabilization and Clarity Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views, I though I add "Bright and Clear dreams" to my mantra for my MILD/DILD.

Last night I had 3 regular dreams and they were all very bright, lots of light, lots of bright colors. Before, most of my dreams were at night, dark, browns and greys, not very clear. Remember trying to flip the light switch on many occasions, but that never worked.

My question is - do you add something like this to your mantra, or you just wait to get to LD and then if you need to, yell Clarify. Or do all your dreams already start bright and clear?

It depends on the person, I guess, for you see, to work on mantras you have to be as focused as possible, and then, along mantras can be boring and keep you awake, so I personally prefer using clarify in my dreams.

      You can, if you want!
      I'm glad we helped you.
To answer your question in more depth, I would say the more you do the greater the chance of outcome, so do as much as you can.
If you want advice on a mantra, stick to first person, and no negative words, e.g. "My Dreams will be Bright and Happy" try to visualise brightness if you can.
I await to hear what your next lucid is like, remember, command the dream, tends to work.
Good luck and if you have any more questions, just ask!

Just yell clarify, and the dream will become clear. If you want to, try adding something like that to the mantra and see if that helps.
I'm not too fond of MILD's, just not really my thing, but it's different for everyone.

If you notice how powerful remembering things like the light-switch could be, you will understand how easy it is to control your dreams. Just from me telling you about the light-switch, you did it in your dream. Also, the light switch will only work when lucid!
The light switch is a reality check, because lights don't work in dreams unless your lucid. (in my experience.)

In this case, remember to flip the light switch, and the lights will not come on. When they don't, you will realize (i'm dreaming) because in reality the lights should turn on.

I was hoping that the light switch would make it's way into your dreams, and so far its turned out perfectly. So in retrospect, you are 1 step away from being lucid.

Make sure you remember the light switch again tonight, and when the lights don't turn on, you will be lucid!

This is really interesting. I think I will alter, or maybe even change my mantra to something like this.
My current mantra is "When I see my hands I realize that I'm dreaming". It hasn't had any success.
So maybe I will change it up to "My dreams will be bright and vivid".

I'll just steal your discovery and use it for myself, thank you very much.

I don't know about you, but repeating something shorter more times for me sticks in alittle more.
I actually had strange success looking at myself in the mirror doing it, give it a shot!

What about "my dreams are bright and vivid" over "my dreams will be bright and vivid"?
I read somewhere that putting mantras in the future tense makes you brain not know when to actually make dreams bright, like saying to someone you will do something, but you don't tell them when.

I have also read that mantra should be "in present", because subconcious doesn't understand future, as in "I will".
I have a few mantras, that I alternate between, everytime I look at my hands and ask myself "Am I dreaming",
then I do a nose pinch and finger through palm RC. My mantras are "In my dream I RC and realize I'm dreaming.
Bright and Clear dreams". Sometimes I omit the RC part from mantra. But my regular dreams used to be mostly
dark and scary, so adding lights is my priority. I don't mind if my mantra is long. When I say it,
I imagine how it felt to look at my hand in my dream and realizing I'm dreaming.

Yeah, it is kinda cool that just repeating a mantra can fix simple problems in dreams, like darkness or whatever. I don't really have a problem in any of my dreams, except for the fact that I always usually have a kind of tunnel vision where I don't see anything in the peripheral. Like for instance, as you read this you see the text box and your computer screen, the desk maybe, the wall behind it and your arms, things to your sides, etc. In my dreams I would see as wide as the computer screen but everything else would be blurred. I might not even see the edge of the screen.

Also, what I can see tends to be quick and blurred, like I was in a crowd and everyone there wanted to show me something and I kept turning around all over the place to see what everyone was showing me. I can never just look at something and take it in.

In my dreams I need to slow it down, increase vividness and ground myself, as I rarely feel my body, either standing or walking or whatever.

How could I incorporate this into a mantra?

Well, just saying "Bright and Clear dreams" worked like magic for me. First three dreams after I started saying this in my mantra, were full of light, bright and happy colors, lot more details than before. I remember my dream just before I started with my mantra, all I could tell about the person in my dream was that he is male and has pants and blue jacket. After my mantra, I can tell the gender, race, details of their clothing, if they have a purse, can kinda see the face also, and also tell lot more details about my surroundings. I also greatly believe in power of mind so I strongly believed the mantra will work, but to see my dreams actually brighten up like that, after years of darkness, was unexpected.

This is all about my regular dreams, not lucids.

      Just "Bright and clear dreams"?
Not "I have bright and clear dreams"?

If so, would "Vivid and focused dreams" work?

Heh, my first one actually was bright, clear and vivid, but I made it shorter, because I wanted mainly bright and clear. if you going after vivid, by all means, say vivid. I'm sure it will work. While saying it, imagine how vivid and focused it is. My mantra started out like this "In my next dream I RC and realize I'm dreaming." And it got me my first LD. I changed it to "In my next dream I RC and realize I'm dreaming, bright and clear dreams" after my first LD was not bright and vivid and clear as I thought it would be. But you can definitely make up your own mantra based on how you want your dreams to look like. Eventhough I didn't get any LD since my first one (two days ago), it sure changed my regular dreams for better. Good luck.

How about "I want vivid dreams"?
I think that makes it clear to my mind what I want.

I don't think you should say "I want''. I think you should say "I have". The way I understant it, our brain doesn't understand "I want". It only understands "I have". Same principle, as when you wish you winn a lottery. You shouldn't say "I wish I won the lottery", but "I won the lottery" and at the same time, recall a good feeling from the past, when something really good happend to you. For example the good feeling you get in the pit of your stomach the morning after Christmas, when you just realized you got a bunch of new presents. Or any similar joyous moment, when you felt so happy, you had "butterflies" in your stomach. Then the brain learns to identify the good feeling with the item you "wish for" and will help you get it. Maybe someone more experienced can correct me, if this doesn't seem right. But if your read up on "Power of our mind", I believe this is what they are talking about. Also, this is what someone, who is into meditation, OBEs and power od thinking, told me.

Gabs right, mantras are only good in the first person and talking about the present, for me I just use "I'm Dreaming", just because it's so short and it works quite well.

I said to myself for today "My dreams are vivid", so considering your advice this is a good mantra?

Was kinda hard to make stick though, every time I thought of saying it I accidentally started with a different one. I'll get the hang of it though.

I would say that is a good mantra. Try it couple more times and if it still doesn't stick, make another one,
until it sounds and feels right to you, and you truly believe in it. Try to accompany it with a good feeling.

Tried it earnestly last night and wow, it surely did something. Went from 2 fragments per night for three nights to 4 decent dreams, AND

I went to bed. Had a dream about vacuuming up spiders. They started crawling up the outside of the tube so I let it go and they all infested it. I woke up after that, at like 2am. I then added to my previous mantra "My dreams are vivid -and nice-".
I went back to sleep and had a dream where I was in class brushing my teeth. Again it was quite vivid, but I woke up and said the mantra again. This time I saw my hand and it had funny fingers on it, but I didn't become lucid. I was also in my room, and that was quite vivid too.

So all in all the mantra technique you guys explained seems to have worked so far, I'm trying again tonight.
