      A couple beginner questions.

      First of all, hi!

So I've been wanting to find a way to control my dreams, or remember them rather, I never ever remember dreams, and it can be as much as 6 months between each dream I remember.. And they're usually very faint memories.

I first found out about Lucid Dreaming two days ago by accident when a youtuber I'm subscribed to called Vsauce had an episode about dreams, and mentioned LD.

      Enough about that, my questions are;
      1. Do I have to sleep on my back/stomach? I usually sleep sideways in a fetal position with my hips in a 70 degree-ish angle and my knees in a more of 90 degree angle...(I'm not good at explaining..) Will all methods and techniques for lucid dreaming work if I sleep like this? Or do I have to lay on my back?

      2. As I've said I have never really been able to recall dreams, and when I do, it's usually not enough for me to get any dream signs out of it. The dreams I remember the best are usually wet.. If you know what I mean, I guess that's a dream sign, since it's nothing that would ever happen to be in real life.
      Forever alone QQ

      3. Do I really dream 3 to 4 times every night? And yet I only remember 3 to 4 dreams a year?

I have been trying to LD each night since I found out about it, the first night I went asleep repeating to myself; "Tonight I am going to Lucid dream.." I don't remember a lot, but I remember seeing a colorful flash, with kind of transparent colors, and hearing a sort of low and deep creaking sound and then I fell asleep (I think). I don't remember the dream.
Tonight I tried it again, laying on my back with my bed sheets covering my body, and only my head sticking out and with my hands along side my body. Suddenly my body started to feel really heavy and my heart started beating really fast because I got excited. I think I was beginning to feel sleep paralysis, but my nose started itching and I really really had to scratch it, so nothing happened that night either, heh...

Wow, this is quite a read.. Kudos to anyone who bothers with it :3
      Looking forward to your replies!

You don't have to sleep in an specific position to lucid dream. I sleep in the exact same position you are describing. If I am attempting a WILD, I will normally start out relaxing on my back, then roll onto my side to finish and enter the dream. It depends on how easily you fall asleep. Some people fall asleep and lose consciousness too easily, so they like to WILD in a specific position to help them stay focused.

If you have a normal sleeping schedule, you are dreaming every night. You are just not remembering any of the dreams. Try telling yourself every night that you will wake and remember every dream. Visualize yourself waking up and writing in your dream journal. Once you develop the habit, it will be second nature.

      Hey Attempt!

First of all, welcome to DV!

Now when it comes to sleeping position, they all have the same effect. People can lucid dream on the side or position they feel most comfortable when sleeping. Pretty much any lucid dream technique works this way.

As for recall, start writing a dream journal. A dream journal can definitely improve your recall over time. Just start by writing whatever you can remember as soon as you wake up and eventually your entries will become more lengthy as your recall improves.

And yeah, funny enough, people do infact experience on average 3 - 4 dreams per night, most of which they cannot recall. You definitely experience them, but because your recall is so bad you can't remember most. Don't worry though. My recall used to be the same a few months ago. My recall was basically just like yours and ever since I started writing a dream journal it has improved dramatically.

Finally, you may want to read up on this introductory guide to lucid dreaming which I have linked here. Its a great tutorial and I think it covers most of the popular lucid dreaming techniques around. Also, feel free to ask me a question and I'll see what I can do.

      Cheers!

Oh and don't worry about #2. It will happen eventually.

Hello there sir. Welcome to the best site on the Internet!

      1) No, any sleep position will do fine! It really only matters if you can fall asleep! Although some people do WILD while laying on their back, it doesn't mean you have to. Like I said, just as long as you fall asleep you are on the right track!

2&3) A lot of people seem to have bad dream recall when they first start out. Check out the dream recall tutorial for some great advice on increasing your dream recall. If you are sleeping on a regular sleep schedule and getting enough sleep then you are having dreams! Just as long as you are in REM then you're having dreams.

As I last suggestion I recommend you check out Puffin's beginner's guide to lucid dreaming located in the newbie section. Also make sure to check out the wiki as well for some great tutorials and some basic knowledge that will help you out!

Enjoy your stay at dreamviews! Good luck sir!

Hi there my friend, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions

Do I have to sleep on my back/stomach? I usually sleep sideways in a fetal position with my hips in a 70 degree-ish angle and my knees in a more of 90 degree angle...(I'm not good at explaining..) Will all methods and techniques for lucid dreaming work if I sleep like this? Or do I have to lay on my back?
Nothing is actually restraining you to sleep in your favorite sleeping position. So I'd say, go with the sleeping position that you are most comfortable with.

      2. As I've said I have never really been able to recall dreams, and when I do, it's usually not enough for me to get any dream signs out of it. The dreams I remember the best are usually wet.. If you know what I mean, I guess that's a dream sign, since it's nothing that would ever happen to be in real life.

Do you already have a dream journal? If not, I suggest you get yourself one. It's a must have in increasing your dream recall my friend. Try also reading the official Dream Recall Tutorial to know more on how to increase your dream journal.

      3. Do I really dream 3 to 4 times every night? And yet I only remember 3 to 4 dreams a year?
A person usually dreams 4-7 times a night. But the downside is, we only remember dreams in fragments or, we don't even remember a single thing. Just like what I've said, try reading the Tutorial above to know more on how to increase your dream recall my friend

Based on your account, you've experienced an SP my friend. This is usually called the transitional phase, or the phase where you are about to enter an LD. But there are two options on how to enter an LD when you're in the transitional phase. If you are an imaginative person, while experiencing SP, imagine the dream setting and how it would look like. If you think the setting is already okay or fine for you, engage or enter it. But if you're kind of the person who doesn't have a wide field of imagination, option 2 is for you. What you'll do is you'll wait for the Sp to fade off. And when it fades off, slowly get up and do an RC. Just keep practicing my friend and you'll get the hang of it in no time. Hope this helps

      Hi there my friend,
Welcome to DV. It would be great if you made your own thread my friend. For you to have control of your dream, you must first be connected with the dream itself. Act as if you are the dream. Be aware of how the dreamscape shifts its appearance and how the dream wind breezes through your body. Be connected. It would also help if you read the official dream control tutorial. As for stabilization, try reading the official dream stabilization and clarity tutorial to prolong your dream experience and make out the most of your dreams. Hope this helps

I went to bed quite early tonight (21:30) and I woke up 4 times and remembered a couple dreams! But the most interesting one was the last one, so I'll try to explain that one, because I'm not sure if I was lucid or not...

The first thing I can remember is being underwater, but instead of holding my breath, which I'd done in the dream I had before where I was also underwater, I tried breathing, and it worked. I realized that I was in a dream.. And that's about all I remember, but I don't remember waking up. Instead I remember being in sort of like a medieval castle with some characters from Game of Thrones (TV series). I remember seeing that fat king I don't remember the name of, the Lannister lady that he was married to and Ned Stark. I think the fat king guy was drunk and wanted to fight me, and I think he cut my hand, I was bleeding, but did not feel pain. Then my grandmother came into my room and woke me up....... -.- I told her not to before I went to bed. That's why I hardly remember anything because I didn't get enough time to recall my dream.

I did write the 3 previous dreams on a piece of paper however, and wrote them on my online dream journal at Lucidipedia

Weakamon: What exactly do you mean by SP fading off? I didn't see anything particular when it was happening, just a few weak dots, which are usually there. I do remember seeing one thing however, but I don't think I'd been through SP yet, I remember seeing a very weak blue color, and by weak I mean VERY weak. And I saw like a black shadow of someone diving into the water, I think. It was like as if I was underwater watching someone dive. I saw the shadow fall two or three times. And then I had to swallow, because I'm not used to laying on my back, and then it disappeared, I drank some water just before I went to bed, so I don't think that there's anything I can do about it.

What do you think the reason why I don't see anything particular is? Sometimes I can see tiny tiny pictures or images of different things. For instance, I think I saw a tiny picture of Mona Lisa one time. I've been playing some Dead Rising 2, and there is a Mona Lisa there which I've seen a couple times. I also think I saw the face of Deathwing (dragon) from the Warcraft lore. They were not colored tho, all black and white.

I have some more questions, but these are the only ones I can come up with now. Hope you reply ^^

      Hi there again my friend.

I'm not sure if I was lucid or not...
Based on your account or narration of your dream, we can safely classify it as a Lucid Dream(Congrats on your LD ). When you became lucid, you said you don't know what happened next. So it's either you lost your lucidity or you just can't remember what happened next. Next time you become lucid my friend, I suggest you focus yourself and be aware of you dream environment so that the chances of you losing your lucidity/forgetting your dream will be lowed down.

The dots, the weak colors, the image of mona lisa and the image of deathwing, etc. are what we actually call Hypnagogic Imagery(HI). HI often appears in your mind when you are in a calm and relaxed state. This images you experience, are usually in-connection of what you experienced during the last few days or even memories that can't be taken off your mind or important to you.

During an SP, your body will usually experience intense vibrations and you will start to hear buzzing sounds in your ear. During an SP, it will start off mildly then intensify after a couple of seconds. When it reaches its peak, it will start to fade off and weaken. the absence of SP, will last for a few seconds, then it will repeat itself again. To simplify this statement:

      Experiences SP-->weak SP-->intense SP(peak)-->fades off-->state of silence-->starts again and repeats cycle

A person should be able to slowly get up from their bed and do an RC when they are in the state of silence. When a person gets up and does an RC, the cycle will stop because you are already in a dream( but of course, it depends if you really are inside a dream). BUT, If a person does not get up, the cycle will repeat itself and you'll just have to wait for the state of silence again. In your case, I'm afraid you haven't gone through SP yet for you were only experiencing HI. But don't be turned off, SP usually kicks in after you experience HI.

Just be patient and confident and I bet you'll be able to experience SP in no time. Please reply back if you do still have some questions. Hope this helps

      P.S.
SP tends to be scary, expect creepy sounds, terrifying hallucinations and the like. So prepare yourself for one heck of a ride

Hmm.. I have felt my body going numb / becoming heavy after I was laying in my bed for a while, but I never really felt any vibrations. I have seen some "scary" HI's however, such as ghoul faces coming towards me then fading. I didn't think about it and just observed, I know it's all imaginary so I don't let it bother me.
When I try to WILD, my family is usually still awake so I can hear them through the roof / walls, but only just. Even after I felt my body feeling weird, I could still hear them, so I guess I wasn't dreaming because my hearing wasn't turned off(?).

Last night I was laying still in my bed for about one hour, and nothing major really happened after the weird feelings. Are you saying what I am experiencing is not SP because it's lacking the vibrations? If so, what could I do? If what I'm feeling is in fact SP, should I open my eyes and step out of bed after it stops? Even if I can still hear people talking from upstairs?

I really appreciate your help a lot, you're very helpful

      Hi there again my friend,

Even after I felt my body feeling weird, I could still hear them, so I guess I wasn't dreaming because my hearing wasn't turned off(?).
When you experience SP, it's still possible to hear external sounds(e.g. your family). But I think you'll hardly notice them at all with the weirdness that's happening in your body.

Last night I was laying still in my bed for about one hour, and nothing major really happened after the weird feelings. Are you saying what I am experiencing is not SP because it's lacking the vibrations? If so, what could I do? Vibrations isn't what determines SP my friend. SP varies from person to person. The common effects of SP is vibration of the body, buzzy sounds in the ear, creepy hallucinations, strange whisperings in your ear, sensation of falling, increase in heart beat rate, sensation of someone touching you an the like. If you experience the any of the above effects. It's probably an SP. But just like what I've said, it varies from person to person so it's possible that you may not experience the effects listed above and rather experience stranger/less stranger effects instead.

If you think you are not experiencing an SP, shift to another sleeping position, that might just be answer. But if you really are experiencing SP, wait for the part where it stops, then that's the time you open your eyes and get up. By the way, it's still possible that you may "carry" the external sounds from wake state to sleep-state.

Hope this helps and good luck
