How can I NOT talk to myself??

      Hey!

I've been trying WILD two or three times, without any success other than sleep paralysis. The reason being that I've been trying it whilst laying on my back the whole time, and didn't learn until today that I can sleep in any position I want..

To my point: What am I supposed to think about while I am waiting for a dream to come up? I usually talk to myself. For instance I can feel SP kicking in I'll think "Wow, here comes sleep paralysis again.. Do not think about it, ignore it. Just lie here" And the I usually forget what to do after it stops and end up having to swallow or something.

Sometimes I will replay a song in my head.. How do you guys do it? I can't make my brain shut up. I always have to think about something, be it a song, a sound or simply talking to myself.. Help! My brain is so chatty

I have this same issue, I have only managed a WILD once. Something I hear other people say often is to allow thoughts to come into your head (don't try to force them to be quiet), but don't focus on them. Let them come in and go out.

Of course, I haven't really had much success myself, but that is usually what I read. Good luck!

      Hey attempt!
It's completely normal to have your mind racing over things before you go to bed, there is a couple of things you can do to become more relaxed before bed.
      - Don't worry about it, you will begin to unwind as you lay there, just observe each thought that comes into your head, but don't push to think about it any more than natural.
      - Listen to relaxing music before bed, warning - may make you fall asleep really easily.
      - Turn off all bright lights before bed (20 mins~)
      - Focus on your breathing, or the sensation of your back against your bed
      - Stretch before bed
      - Visualise yourself in a dream

Find what works best for you, happy dreams

      Hi there my friend,

It's pretty natural for a person to have a conversation with himself if he's the type of person who's great in socializing. Anyways, I know this technique on how to distract yourself from having a conversation with your mind. I would suggest you focus on your breathing and count each breath you take. This way, you won't be able to have a conversation with yourself because you are engaging yourself to something that requires focus or self-mindedness. Just keep practicing my friend and be patient. Hope this helps

If you can't get yourself to stop thinking, you might try counting. It is helpful for both relaxing and it keeps you form going "OMG there's SP!" too much.

This is a really tough thing that's completely normal for people to deal with, focus on your breaths. Anytime you think things, just focus on breathing. You will eventually break past the wall, and just stop inner dialogue for the most part.
      From my rotting body,
      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

Thanks a lot I'll try to wild again after I've had dinner tonight.. Another question tho, I was trying to WILD last night as well, and I felt sleep paralysis, then after the sleep paralysis was over, I just laid there for about an hour and nothing special happened, I could sometimes see patterns on the back of my eyelids, like little grey dots that became smaller and smaller the closer to the center of my eyelids. I also have problems figuring out how I should keep my eyelids shut, if I force it, my eyelids are kind of shaky-ish, but if I don't I can feel them slowly opening up again..

I used to have the same problem with my eyelids, Attempt. Not for LD, but just sleep in general. I found that after a few days of rolling my eyes into the back of my head (which is what your eyes will do naturally while asleep at times,) my eyelids stayed closed without any effort. After a few months of this I fall asleep faster if I roll my eyes back. Not sure if this will help you, but it did me.

As far as the LD stuff goes, I'm still a newbie, so I'll let some veterans comment on that.

I never even have tried to WILD while initially going to sleep, but I can do it a lot after sleeping a few hours and semi-waking up. I do also allow my brain to chat to itself and wander as it wants to... but the WILDs usually click in the most when I ask it to visualize whatever it wants to. I don't tend to get those sort of Epic movie-like dreams that sometimes come in the DILDs though.

Another mention is that while I always ask the brain to visualize whatever it wants to, I can sort of guide the visuals with my wishes once they have started. When I first started doing this, I would sometimes see some ugly and scary things, but I learned to mentally walk to them and hug them and tell them they had my unconditional love. They would (every time) instantly turn into a sensation of Love in my Heart. Those were really great sensations.

Speaking of visulization, what exactly do they look like? Is it as clear and vivid as real life, or are the colors kind of weak and you can see like a transparent black border around it? I am curious since I have never had any luck with WILD....yet

I haven't seen that sort of border. The colors are usually weak and not very vivid. In the past I have sort of tried to vivify the colors and I could have it happen, but it didn't seem to be of any value or use. Mostly, these dreams seem to be about evolving me and getting rid of fears. What do you think dreams are here for for us?
