      Hi Ninjah, welcome to DV!

I think it would be very wise to practice dream recall before trying to LD. After all, it would be very sad if you succeeded to LD, but you didn't remember it because of bed recall.

Remembering your dreams is the first step in LDing. You really need to be able to remember at least a little before you'll do well in LDing. I think remembering one dream per night is a good goal to have, and once you can do that, start with the techniques. However, don't forget about working on recall after that! It's something you should continue doing alongside whatever other techniques you do. It's kind of like warming up if you're a musician, or stretching if you're an athlete--it's a basic thing you'll always need before you can LD.

If you have any more questions, let me know.

      Hi Ninjah Welcome to Dreamviews!

Like Naiya said, yes it is a good idea. If you don't work on your recall you could actually forget a lucid dream (It is possible!). Don't take dream recall for granted, I strongly recommend you work on it. Good luck!

      Hi there my friend,
Dream recall is very important in the field of Lucid Dreaming. Not only does it increase the chances of you remembering your dreams, it also assists you in various methods(e.g. MILD and DILD). So I strongly recommend you to practice your dream recall. Also, don't forget to get yourself a Dream Journal. Hope this helps

You don't really need to be able to recall one dream a night before you start lucid dreaming but it wouldn't be a bad idea. Being able to recall the lucid dreams you work so hard for seems like a good idea.

In my opinion you do need to have good recall to remember lucid dreams, it comes quite easily within a few weeks usually.
I once didn't realise I had had a lucid until hours after getting up, due to bad recall that night.
