Smile Hey people! Strange newbie question, please help?

So happy to have found this site! Maybe you all could help me with a lucid problem?

For some reason all of my dreams take place in third-person, as if I'm watching myself in a movie. I can only remember a couple times in my life that I've dreamt in first-person and I had considerable control over them. I mean, I can have lucid dreams sometimes but I have such little personal involvement with them that they usually fade away.

I've talked with a few close friends about this and they think it's because I've been writing all my life, so my brain is naturally inclined to construct dreams like I'm writing a fiction story. But I don't want this, I want to experience actual lucid dreams

Any suggestions on how to switch perspective of lucid dreams? Thanks so much

      Hello!
Alot of my dreams are in 3rd Person and I agree it is difficult to tell you are dreaming in that case. If you think it is due to your writing, why not focus on writing in 1st person?
If the dreams fade away, you probably need to restabilise, its quite difficult to do, but comes with practice.
      Hope you enjoy your stay!

Thanks, Arch. I haven't gotten very good at restabilizing yet. Since I'm usually watching myself act out a dream, rubbing my hands together or spinning around seems impossible. I had a very odd experience the other night where this detached version of myself was talking to me, but I couldn't talk back... I guess that's because my "dream logic" told me that there can't be two versions of myself?

What's up with my brain telling me what I can and can't do in a dream? How do I overcome this oppressive dream logic?

Welcome to DV. I find that when I play video games a lot I dream in the third person. This can be a dream sign. If you find yourself in the third person do a reality check. If you want you can say a mantra, "If I am in the third person I am dreaming." Hopefully that will help you become lucid.

I had the exact same problem for a while! I write fiction stories a lot, and most of the time in third person. For a while it confused me, but then I
1:Started writing occasionally in 1st person
      2:Used it as a dreamsign
3:It helps, if you train yourself, (Sort of like a reality check) to ask the dream-you if you are dreaming. Usually, even though dream characters usually say that you're not dreaming, it works. At least for me. Might be worth a shot
