      Dream Journal Question

I've only been trying to keep a Dream Journal for about 3 days so I'm still a complete noob to this but please hear me out. When i wake up in the middle of the night, I can recall the dream i just had without much difficulty. The issue is that I can never actually get up and reach for my Dream Journal on the desk directly next to my bed, and then i fall asleep shortly. Possibly because I'm too tired? I only end up being able to record the last dream I had.

Hopefully some of you guys can give me some helpful insight.

I often feel like I don't have the energy to write dreams down at night, too. I simply keep scrap paper at my bedside, and when I wake up, I don't turn the lights on or anything and just grab the pencil/pen, scribbling down jot notes of the dream without even lifting my head out of bed. It looks awkward but it works - I write down enough things, five or six short sentences, so that I'll remember the whole dream in the morning.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

So you keep the scrap paper on the bed with you? Also for your tutorial it states i should be able to recall at least 1 dream a day, is it ok if that dream is the last one before i wake up?

I'd keep it within arm's distance, or on the night table. The less I move around and wake up, the more I seem to be able to recall dreams. As for how many you should recall per night, it doesn't really matter when the dreams occurred, whether it's at the beginning of the night or right before you wake up.

Ok i'll be sure to do that thanks for your hasty response, and btw when i'm trying to be "aware" should i just be absolutely aware of every single one of my senses. Or should i be aware in the sense that if it was a dream i would notice.

That's when one of these comes in really handy: LED lighted pen for writing in the dark

I always take out the ink cartridge and replace it from a gel writer pen that flows really well - these damn things make scratchy thin pale marks I can't see while I'm writing.

Yep - try to be as aware of your senses as possible, mainly sight, touch and hearing, but the others are important too. You don't have to do this 24/7, just start out for whenever it crosses your mind to do so, then work your way up, although it's not so much how often you do it as how well you do it. I also recommend trying to reason out why you're not dreaming, and what might happen if you were dreaming. For instance, you're awake and you do a nose-plug reality check to make sure. Then you'd say something like "I'm awake because I can't breathe but if I were dreaming, I would be able to breathe". Also use this same technique with your surroundings: "things might look different, or hazy in a dream".

Cool. I should look around for one of those!
