Post Intro and a few questions

      Hey guys, I recently decided to attempt lucid dreaming, and have been going now for almost a week. I've been following tutorials all over the internet and this site seems to be the best place for fellow dreamers. I haven't achieved lucidity yet, but I understand it can take some time, so I guess I just have to keep trying =]. I do, however, have a few questions on some of the experiences i've had in the last few days;

Firstly my dream recall has increased dramatically. I'm remember 2-3 sides of an A3 notepad each dream compared to the paragraph/couple of lines that I used to. But the number of dreams i'm remember is decreasing. The first night I remembered 5, but the last couple have just been the 1 (albeit a very detailed dream with multiple scenes). Is it natural for your dream recollection to vary even if you've been keeping a steady DJ?

Also last night I thought I might have had a chance to experience my first lucid. I remember declaring something to be out of place and that I should do a reality check. But just as i was about to look at my hands, something else distracted me. Does this happen often to new lucid dreamers?

Thanks in advance =]. This site looks like it has an amazing community!

Welcome to the forums fellow lucid dreamer. =D

It may be that your number of dreams will vary in till you get into a habit of recording dreams( I just started Lucid Dreaming as well and I know the number of dreams I remember each night vary).

I had a similar experience where I did a reality check in a dream that failed, and I was about to do another one but for some reason decided against. I'm sure as you get more experienced you will be able to avoid these problem.s

      Good luck to you!

Are you sure this is one long dream? Could it be multiple dreams throughout the night that are all blended into one upon waking? Do you wake throughout the night to write down your dreams? Or do you wait until the morning?

I usually wake throughout the night and write them down as I go, though the dreams seem to get longer as the night goes on. I was trying to recognise my REM cycles, and the most common times i usually wake from my dreams are around 2-3am, followed with another one around 6-7am. The last couple of nights i seem to just be skipping the first and waking up at 7. They could be multiple dreams but they just seem to feel like one long one I guess it's no big deal since i'm happy as long as i can remember one dream a night =].

Which actually reminds me of another question i needed to ask. It's beginning to take me about 20 - 25 minutes to write down all the details i can remember of a dream. This can be quite annoying at 5 or 6 in the morning, since I really have trouble getting back to sleep. Do I need to write down every detail there and then or would writing simple words and notes be enough to jog my memory later that day when i come to writing up my journal?

And thank you very much for the replies

Do you still notice yourself waking up after your 2-3am dream? You're probably just sleeping right through your 3am awakening. If you're worried about it, be sure to remind yourself to notice this awakening. I wouldn't stress about it too much. You can only hold so many intentions at once. You have to pick your battles.

Dream journaling can take a long time if you are writing out every detail. Jotting down notes or key phrases works, but obviously not as well as a detailed account. I find myself remembering more and more as I get into the details. Sometimes I will remember whole sections of dreams I may have forgotten if I didn't really push.

I try to only record details if it was a particularly good dream. My dream-addled judgement often fails me with this. I will think a dream was crap and dismiss it, even though it really was incredible, funny, or insightful. I end up kicking myself for being an idiot. Just do the best you can. You know when you are being lazy.

Hey Quietus, welcome to Dreamviews! I am glad you decided to join the site, and post on the fourms

Lucid dreaming can take some time to achieve, sure. It took me about a month to have very short lucid dream. How long it takes you to have your first lucid and become a regular at it depends on the person. Some people catch on easily, while for others it takes some time. It took me longer than others to get regular lucids because of one thing...my attitude about it. Honestly, attitude in my opinion plays a huge role when it comes to anything about lucid dreaming. Be confident about it! Tell yourself lucid dreaming is easy and you can get one every night with no problem.

It is great your dream recall has gotten better! Dream recall is the first step to lucid dreaming. It is normal for a persons dream recall to vary when they first start out. Don't worry about it! Just follow the steps in this thread, and keep practicing! Soon, your recall should level out and all will be fine.

Sounds like you were close to having a lucid to me! You just got distracted, and forgot about it. It is pretty common for new luciders. Just keep practicing, you are so close!

Good luck! I hope you have many lucid dreams If you have any questions just send me a PM I would be happy to help.
