      Being jolted awake during sleep

There have a been few times where after I've gone to bed where I've abruptly woken up by my head/body slamming down on the bed - almost as if I've been sleep walking and gone back to bed and thrown myself down on the bed. Anyone else here do the same thing?

I also wake up constantly by my body jolting/twitching in the middle of the night and I'm a very violent sleeper (as I've been told) I kick and punch all throughout the night without being aware I'm doing it - also wake up constantly to my pillows and blankets on the floor or across the room

And just last night, I had just fallen asleep and I woke up literally what felt 2 second later feeling like I had been electrocuted.. My body felt numb/tingling like I had been shocked and I could tell my heart had stopped as it felt strange and was racing extemely fast and I was out of breathe. I was too scared to go back to sleep after that incase it happened again. I didn't dream I was being electrocuted, it just randomly happened the second I fell asleep

Anyone else relate to this, or can explain it?

This is a quote form another thread I responded to, it addresses this phenomena from the esoteric/spiritual point of view.

Like you used the analogy of the light and how far it can shine I attribute the same example, with the factor that it is like an elastic band. When ones awareness is not totally stable in the Astral it becomes fragmented and the astral body slowly looses cohesion like a rubber band being streatchd and becoming finer as one pushes further than their resources can take them, so once one exceeds the extent of their source at any time one is then flung back to the physical in an instant, thereby accounting for sudden jolting awakenings in which one cannot remember what was occuring before they awoke. That being because as the chord becomes finer and finer its transferral of information to the physical origin (seat of projected consciousness) is less effective and eventually if it is pushed to far the content of the experience is not yielded upon awaking. On the other hand if one awakens because they get excited they will still have plenty of energy that could have been used, so the experienc is retained. I feel that a master who lucid dreams naturally every night is unlimited tho and they can go every where and anywhere they wish. The factor of energy is no longer an issue they are infinite.

Hi Glassjaw, and welcome to Dreamviews.
What you are experiencing is called a Hypnagogic Jerk. Try googling it for more details~

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

Haha yeah, it's a hypnic jerk (like forceez said), they are common. Usually they happen on the threshold of sleeping/being awake. I've read about them before, and it talks about how since you're not fully awake or asleep yet, as you fall/trip/whatever in your dream, your brain sends signals to your limbs and what not to catch your balance and what not so it causes you to sorta jerk (since you're balancing between consciousness and unconsciousness) which ends up waking you up.
