My experience:

1. Do at least 10 RCs a day. Think to yourelf you ARE asleep and be surprised when the test passes.

2. Before going to sleep convince yohrself you really want to LD.

3. Make sure you really can remember at least 1 dream per night.

4. Journal your dreams.

5. Wake up after your dreams if you can. Your best shot is after 5 am (for me. Depends on your sleep patterns).

6. After the later dream wakeup, recite that you want to become lucid in next dream.

7. Imagine what you want to do when becoming lucid. Look at the floor is good to start out as it stabilizes you.

I do that and about once a week I LD.

BUT everyone is different... But try for a couple weeks.
