      Newbie but oldie

Hi there I'm Dan and 38 years old and want to experience ld's again.
When i was a teenager I used to put alot of effort into LD and will never forget the 1st time i flew however as time goes by other things take over so the dreaming was pushed out the way.
But hopefully I can do it all again, but one question i have is that whenever I used to LD I found myself getting over excited that I was lucid in my dream and would wake up as a result does this happen to anyone else and are there ways around it
      regards
      Dan

Hey Dan! Glad to hear you've decided to try and pick up lucid dreaming again.

Many people have trouble maintaining a lucid dream once it starts. If you have a look around the forum you will find many tips and tutorials for keeping yourself calm and collected once you realise you're lucid, so you can maintain your lucidity for longer. Personally, I've tried to train myself to become calm once I realise I'm lucid, and I try to concentrate on details of my surroundings. This helps me stabilise the dream and make it seem more solid so I'm less likely to wake up.

Anyway I'm sure you'll get some great advice on this forum and you'll pick up lucid dreaming again in no time.

      Welcome to DV!

Ah the getting excited problem, remember that. What I would do is close one of my eyes and try to feel the enviroment around me to stabilize the dream further, that works for me. And cool on getting back to LDing. Hopefully you will have many soon.

I agree with Hukif. Immediately feel the tactile sensations of objects near you and scrutinise them with your vision close up. The has the effect of taking your mind off the excitement and also stabilises the dream.
