I'm new to this too and my only problem with SP is the swallow reflex. I'm thinking don't do it dont do it *swallows* damn and then I give up.

I don't know much about OBEs, but in my WILDs I always "wake up" in the place where I went to sleep, and it almost feels just like real life. So, I guess it's close to OBEs.

Before trying to WILD, you must sleep for about 4-6 hours, or you can do it during a nap. Then, you must fall asleep without losing your consciousness. Try to count your breaths, or visualise something. After a while, you'll enter REM sleep, and that's when the sleep paralysis happens. To me, it feels like strong vibrations. There are different ways to transition into a lucid dream from this point, but what I do is just staying calm. After a few seconds, I'm in a dream.

You can still WILD even if you swallow. Swallowing is completely fine, so don't worry about it.

Just keep practicing SP. Don't think too much about it, think of it like going to sleep. To get an idea of what I mean, check out the Jeff777's Free-Falling WILD technique. I think the best time to induce an OBE is during that stage of vibrations like OneiroMoon mentioned. (Many OBE/AP tutorials talk about this.) If you're worrying about your body and swallowing during SP, it's going to be difficult to experience. It's okay, just relax. You can do it. Also be sure to read the Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming, if you haven't already.
