Firstly, take slow steps. Though I am new to the forum, I am a seasoned Lucid Dreamer/Dream Controller. The most important thing at a beginning stage is to question your surroundings. I take it that your dreams are substantially different from the real world, an important milestone to reach is to stop in a dream and say, out loud, "Is this real?" Once you make that assertion, everything changes.

Good advice from epaminondas146. I would just add, that you can achieve this behavior by practicing daytime awareness during day. When you get into habit of asking yourself if you are dreaming, this behaviour will start manifest itself in your dreams and your will ask yourself the same question in a dream. Once you do that, you realize you are dreaming and then you will remember to do RC. Happy dreams

Do you remember to reality check during the day? An alarm or reminder might help you get started. If you are just getting started, focus on keeping a dream journal, and just trying to reality check whenever you can. The more you record your dreams, the more familiar they will become.
