      Hi Hi

I've been interested in this for a while, but I've only been putting in a concerted effort for about a week. I found these forums while doing research, so thanks for all the information available. I have not yet succeeded in my attempts so I'd like as much advice as possible. Keeping dream journal and my dream recall has massively skyrocketed. I didn't expect such results so quickly, but essentially I've gone from recalling about 1 dream a week before the recording my dreams to recognizing as many as 7 different dreams in a night (Split up into two or even 3 sleeping periods due to WBTB.)

Despite this, binaural beats, MILD, and WILD techniques, I haven't yet (or at least don't believe I have yet) managed to perform a single RC during a dream.

My dreams seem to be pretty random too. I mean a while back I had one where I became Godzilla and was captured and tried for war crimes. They're not very consistent from dream to dream, another dream had me functioning as a disembodied camera for some tropical Caribbean fish singing educational songs... (I can't really explain that very well.)

Any suggestions on what I should practice to increase my chances of success?
Oh and I work graveyard normally so I'm generally relegated to sleeping during the day.

      Welcome to DreamViews!

Looks like you are already on to a good start. You are working on recall with the DJ and you understand techniques. From here...it usually just takes time and practice. Consistency in recording your dreams and practicing RCs will bring you to a point, someday, of finding them second nature.

I never manage to RC in a dream either. I must say that since I've been on the forums (a lot) my mind is now influenced enough to cause me to have "lucid dream" thoughts at all hours of the day and night. I find this has helped me increase my awareness in my dreams.

      Consistency>familiarity>success!

I also understand that people have REM cycles or moments throughout the day. I know I'm not using proper terminology, but by varying periods of sleep during this period to coincide with higher susceptibility to these cycles really helps with the frequency of lucidity.

For example, I usually sleep at night, but I find that if I wake in the morning (for kids) and then go back to bed later in the morning I have LDs easily. This also applies for me when I take naps in the late afternoon. I usually have one long sleep period of four to six hours and then one or two short sleep periods ranging from 30 to 90 minutes. This greatly increases lucidity for me. I also find these dreams to be...more unusual like the ones you describe having.

Anyway, read on, post more, and welcome to the forum!

      Hello,
Thanks melanieb for such a great reply, you have left me without many words!
Your recall sounds great, keep it up to that level and you will have no issue having consistent lucid dreams.
WILD is a tough technique, for some it can take quite alot of work to have a success, but I recommend trying a couple of nights a week if you really want to have some success with it.
I have crazy dreams, I believe awareness techniques don't work very well for you and I, but recognising when something odd happens or when you are in the middle of something and doing a RC is a great way to have DILDs.
Check out the DVA, you could get some help there, I hope to see you around.
