      Newbie

Hi all I'm kind of new to this. I found this forum yesterday. But I've had vivid dreams with the nicoderm patch and have loved them all. Even the scary ones. Whenever I try to stop smoking I look forward to the one or two vivid dreams I have and try to write them down. Wondering how I could increase the chances of having a vivid or lucid dream googling brought me here. I've read up quite a bit on how WILD works.

Last night I decided to practice relaxation and believe that although I didn't perform the Awaken or first step of wild. I believe I came close to transition. Here is the entry from my dream journal. Sorry in advance if some of the info is dupe.

      05/06/2012
Read about WILD (Wake induced lucid dreaming) and DILD (Dream induced lucid dreaming) today. Put a tone on my phone that rings out every 30 min. Whenever I hear the tone I consciously think “Am I dreaming?” I do two reality checks. (1) I place my right middle and index finger into my left palm and press against it to see if it will go through. (2) I look at both my palms for details. This tone rings throughout the day and night. Whenever I hear it I do the checks. Hopefully the audio will come through when I’m dreaming, the checks will fail… lucidity.

Went to bed at approx. 1AM although WILD is not supposed to work in this way I decided to try the technique as practice. I made sure I was comfortable. The room was dark and I adjusted the AC to the best setting. I relaxed. What I experienced occurred over a period of approximately 20min. It took some time and some patience. I decided that I would try and keep conscious and that whatever I saw I would not try to observe too closely, interact with or focus on. I would try to observe as though I was watching a picture slide show. This is harder than it sounds. To keep conscious I would every now and then repeat I am awake. Sometimes I would count “1 I am awake” “2 I am awake” I did this subtly in my head as not to disturb the water.
My memory is not clear on everything but I will try and describe what I saw. At first there were what looked like paint globs. Splashes of not so colourful colour. They would come randomly and not often. They would then fade away. These globs look like the images left on your retina when you look at a light and then close your eyes, they differ in that they have a definite shape. Much like a splash of paint. I maintained a state of relaxation. After a while I would see very faint images that definitely had a structure. I think one was of a bicycle I could see the front wheel and handlebars. Let me point out at this point that what I don’t think any of the images I saw tonight were animated. More like a still photograph.
I believe I saw a house from the outside. Although I have never seen the house before it was somewhere I have been. The image was not colourful and was faint. I tried not to focus. This is again… a lot harder than it sounds. There was then a great event. I think that there might have been a feeling of falling, or a great vibration. I became very scared and got up IRL (In real life). I did a reality check as I have read that sometime you fall into the dreamscape thinking that your awake. I was still awake and still scared. I decided to abandon any more experimentation for the night. I fell asleep immediately.

      Welcome to Dreamviews, TinFury!

That is a great description of your WILDing ecperience. When you see images like that next time, especially after they turn into movies/dreams, you can enter them by wishing you were there. The vibrations, falling, and any other sensations are a normal part of WILDing, although you may not feel them the same each time. Just let them be and enjoy the ride. You have probably already found it, but you have not, there is a WILD class in DV Academy that's really worth a while. Also classes for beginners, Dream Yoga, DILD... Feel free to check them all out and post your questions. Happy dreams

Those are some new sensations for sure and they can get incredibly intense. But they are nothing more than just sensations. They can not hurt you. I personally enjoy them very much. The more you read about the process, the better you'll be prepared and will know what to expect, so you can stay calm and go through it to your lucid dream. Happy dreams

One thing I wanted to add: Perhaps it would be better, if instead of "I'm awake", you would be saying "I'm dreaming". Since in our dreams we do think we are awake, you need to realize, that you are dreaming.

I've heard those nicotine patches can cause some crazy dreams. We should come up with a program to quit smoking based on the combination of dreaming and the patch. Some sort of lucid self-hypnosis thing.

The only reason I found this forum is because I fell in love with the VIVID dreams I have on the nicotine patch. My very first one was so real that I woke in a state of confusion, and before I realized it was I dream I thought I had been reported to my bedroom. I can't say that the dreams I have on the patch are weirder that any other dream. They are just very clear. Within 14 days of being on the patch I usually have about 2 very clear extremely detailed dreams. Even the nightmares are exciting and fun.

Oh... let me add.... I'm currently on the nicotine patch and I discovered the whole lucid dream thing looking for a way to gain control in one of these vivid dreams. So far I still haven't obtained lucidity. Well not a definate lucidity. I always have a vague idea that this is not reality and sometimes control things. Controlling one of these vivid dreams would be truly awesome. Going to the store today to see if I can pick up some vitamins for improved memory.

Hi, I merged your last two posts. next time, if you want to edit your post, you can use the "Edit Post" button.

If you already have a vague idea that you are dreaming, that's a good sign. I believe, all you need is some daytime awareness training. There is a great explanation of awareness in WILD class. And here is a Beginners guide to lucid dreaming. Happy dreams
