      Hello! :D

      Hello all

I'm interested in LD, but I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, I want to experience the fun stuff one can do in LD's/OBE's/etc.

On the other hand, I'm afraid of loosing control and tumbling into a nightmare.

I've read up on both experiences.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this post, I guess I'm looking for support or something.

      Welcome to dv!

Don't worry, it's very rare (if it ever does happen) that if you lose lucidity your dream turns into a nightmare. Normally it just reverts back to a regular dream.

Read http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/ for a bunch of basic and helpful information on Lucid Dreaming. Check out the Wiki for more detailed articles on various subjects.

If you're worried about nightmares, every night before sleep just silently chant something such as "I have pleasant dreams every night" (you're brain won't register negatives. So it'll see "I will not have nightmares" to "I will have nightmares")

      Good luck and happy dreaming

After sleeping, I found out I was afraid of SP...THAT'S where I heard where the bad nightmares came from.

Since I'm not a member for at least a week yet, can I make references?

Sorry if I can't. But on 9gag (dot) commercial, look up "Lucid dreaming can be dangerous." The post is by vitada.

Lucid dreaming is completely safe, your mind is pretty much the controller. If you expect to hallucinate demons, then that is what you will do. If you expect to hallucinate angels and fairies, then that is what will happen. SP is a great feeling when you actually reach it, the hallucinations - you will get used to.

      Also 9gag? r u srs? Lmao.

      Welcome to DV

This info on 9gag is completely misguided. Experiencing Sleep Paralysis and seeing shadow people is a real phenomenon. However, this is a sleep disorder and not the same thing as the SP you will see most people talking about on this site in relation to WILDing. Isolated Sleep Paralysis (I use the full term to distinguish the disorder from the normal sleep paralysis that occurs in everyone) happens frequently in only about 5% of the population. You may experience this once in your life, but it would likely be only that one occurrence and lucid dreaming is not going to increase your chances of it happening. I have suffered from this disorder in the past, and lucid dreaming actually helped me to cope with it better.

As for nightmares, lucid dreaming is more likely to help those as well. Once you learn to become lucid, there is the possibility of becoming lucid in a nightmare, facing your fears and turning the dream around.

Lucid dreaming is in no way dangerous and will give you the opportunity to control your dreams. After you've read through some of the tutorials on this site (there is a wealth of information here), you may also want to check out the DV Academy. There are often beginner's courses offered and it gives you the chance to get some great one on one advice. Good luck on your attempts, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Yeah, 9gag posts is what started my mind on lucid dreaming. A few days ago I don't believe I was lucid in a dream but I controlled my actions. And boy was it a weird dream when I remember it

I read the whole informational site before I found my way to the forum somehow. I read a couple of different techniques people posted on the forum. I am going to experiment with my dreams within the next couple of weeks.
