New to Dream Views, Old friend to LDing

      Call me winged.
I'm new to Dream Views and am not sure how all of this works. But I finally decided I wanted to share my stories, learn from others and feel like I wasn't completely crazy for a change.

I've been lucid dreaming since I was a little girl. I thought that was how everyone dreamed. I remember in jr high I was sharing one of my dreams with my friends and I watched their faces go from confusion to disbelief. After the comments they made.... I kept my dreams to myself. I thought I was a freak. That was when I figured out not everyone dreamed like I did. But it wasn't until college that I decided it wasn't anything to be ashamed of. So I started researching. That was when I discovered it was called LDing. It was at this point in my life that people finally listened to my dreams with interest and envy.
My LDs always begin with flying. I'm an avid sci-fi/fantasy reader so my dreams always have fantastical plots. I'm usually running from something or someone when I begin to flap my arms and rise off the ground to get away. Flying in regular dreams is hard... like the running in slow motion feeling for most people. But at some point in the air I realize its a dream. From there I can fly anywhere. I create new powers for myself and go wherever I want. I have had a few of those completely original dreams where the place, the things and the plot is made up. But I prefer to keep my LD based somewhat in reality and make up new powers and experiences for myself.

For the past couple months I've experienced my first trouble with achieving my LD. I've never had to try before... or even wanted to. When they come... they come. But my regular dreams have just seemed.. more troubled. The last time I LDed was two weeks ago which is very strange for me. How do I get past this? What's causing it?

I'm going back to college after a break for the summer... but I do that most summers. I have been worrying a lot about the future though because I am close to graduating.

Well, in my own experience, times of stress pretty much killed my ability to lucid dream. I don't know why. Maybe you're too stressed?

That is actually a well observed problem a lot of female lucid dreamers face. Congratulations, it means you got pregnant!

      Welcome to the forum!

I don't know exactly why you are having trouble with lucid dreams but it is possible that some of that recent stress is carrying over to your dreams. It may also be possible that, because you naturally lucid dream without effort, the thoughts and information about lucid dreaming is keeping your mind from doing what it always did before you knew what lucid dreaming was.

Try not to worry about it. Chances are it will happen when your mind is ready for it and you will be all the happier for the unexpected surprise.

We have a great community here, with discussion on every aspect of dreaming and what happens when we sleep. We also have a great off-topic area for healthy debate or posting about nothing.

The staff here (like me) are all ready to help and answer questions if you need guidance or need a nudge in the right direction. You can send any of us a private message by clicking on our profile name.

I'm positive you will have a lucid dream real soon, so try not to let it bother you. Just make sure you keep us informed. If you write them down and decide to share some of them we'd be happy to read those entries also.

      Pleasant dreams!

Hey Winged and welcome to Dreamviews! I actually sort of envy people like you who could lucid dream naturally! And like you, I usually lucid dream when I quit trying to lucid dream xD. But it's not a common thing like you have.

Once you get back into the habit of having lucid dreams again, which I'm sure you will, you should try to complete the Task of the Month or the Task of the Year! I've never done it yet, because I usually forget in my LD's, but if I had them commonly, I would definetley try them! Also you get a reward if you complete the Task of the Month!
