      hey all

Hey all, I'm Nightflare, or Karl, if you'd prefer. I'm new to this lucid dreaming business- I resolved to get into it yesterday.

I've been trying to WILD a few times- once last night before going to bed, once this morning at about 10am (I wake up at about 7ish usually), and twice at about 4:50 pm.

The technique I used was just to lie perfectly still, with my eyes closed, taking deep, regular breaths, counting down from 99 to 0. I didn't have a great deal of luck entering SP with that; My best attempt was the 4:30 pm one, where I changed my technique slightly and constantly repeated "Mind awake, body asleep"- I started feeling a bit dizzy and my eyelids starting twitching like crazy, but unfortunately my father got back with dinner and interrupted me. I tried again directly after dinner, but with no luck. I'm going to try again at about 4am tomorrow morning, since I'm sure that's the right time for an REM cycle (or am I just making this up?). The trouble I've been having is stopping myself from swallowing- I get too much saliva build up, by the time I reach about 60-ish I just have to swallow, which breaks the entire process

Anyway, other than the dreaming, what am I into? Well, I'm a major nerd, for one thing- Currently on a Battlestar Galactica binge, but I also love Firefly and a few other sci-fi. I'm also an avid reader- I love fantasy series like' A Song of Ice and Fire' and Stephen Erikson's 'Malazan: Book of the Fallen' series. I've got a broad music taste, but I listen to a lot of symphonic metal like Within Temptation and Nightwish.

Anyway, thus ends my poor excuse for an introduction. See you around

hi karl and welcome to DV. i know from experience that wild isnt always the best technique to start off with, but that doesnt mean you should stop trying. i started with lucid dreaming almost a week ago and i wanted to start with wild too. though i continued to get halfway there and somehow wake up. none of my lds have been wilds yet, but i know enough about them to give you a little help

for your swallowing problem, you are able to swallow without waking yourself up, you just have to try to pay little to no attention to it.

also, have you been practicing a wbtb with your wild attempts? if not i would suggest you wake up after 5hrs of sleep and then try to wild. it should be close after or during rem.

rem patterns are different from person to person, so it is hard to say.

i wish you luck with your dreaming, and dont worry if you cant wild. there are many other techniques that you may find easier or more interesting. dont give up

Hey Nightflare, that's a very nice dapper Derpy you have there. Welcome to DV!

It's okay to swallow, it won't ruin your WILD. If it really bothers you, try propping your head up a little higher with pillows. Heck, if you want to drool, that's okay too. The point is to fall asleep, but if you're preventing yourself from swallowing, that's pretty distracting, and that becomes what you focus on instead of sleep.

HatsuneMiku is correct in that WILDs are tough not only for beginners, but can also be difficult for experienced LDers. However, most LD induction techniques will take a while to succeed. Be ready to spend at least a few weeks using the techniques, and learning what works for you and what doesn't. Here's a WILD guide I like, and here's some more in-depth lessons on how to WILD.

Good luck, let us know if you have any more questions.

Hey, Nightflare, and welcome to Dreamviews! Glad you joined the forum!

And I've been trying WILD a bit recently, and the way to get rid of the swallowing problem is to just keep your mind on something else. I try to imagine my bed being upside down, and I'm being held by my blankets. It starts to feel real, and my whole body feels light, and I feel like I'm shaking back and forth. I've never had a sucessful WILD, but I've been close.

You just gotta keep trying, you'll get it soon enough! Also, you might want to look into DEILD.

      Hey, thanks
That's good to know, I thought it was like scratching or rolling over, that breaks the SP process.
Yeah, I tried to use WBTB this morning (bear in mind I only started looking into LDing on sunday, this was the first chance I've had to try it) but ended up going straight back to sleep, since I was pretty tired. I'll give it another try tomorrow

And that's a very dapper companion cube you have there
Yeah, I wasn't really expecting to be able to WILD that easily- I'm also trying MILD and DILD, but I figured that trying as many different techniques as I can can only help, right? Thanks for the links, by the way

That sounds interesting, I'll give that a try next time I attempt WILD. And I'll look into DEILD, but I think the problem there would be remembering to stay still immediately when I wake up. Cheers
