Tangerine's friends are my friends. Welcome!

You can stay awake 2-3 times hours or you can stay awake 5-20 minutes it depends on what you prefer.

Stephen LaBerge's WBTB recommended 2-3 hours but I hardly think anyone follows that, when I WBTB I stay up for about 10 minutes.

In some cases you don't even have to go up at all, if you remember dreaming before waking up you can just stay still and have closed eyes and return to the dream again. For more info about that read about the DEILD method (Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream).

WBTB's get more effective the longer you stay up for, I used to stay up for 20 minutes before going back to bed, then again I didn't try to WILD. If you can't fall asleep again after staying up for 10 or more minutes, shorten it. Like MasterMind said, you can do it without even getting out of bed, but doing that can be risky as you'd risk falling aleep too quickly and lose consciousness.
