      Build up to WILD?

Okay, stop me if this is a silly question ... (Actually, hear me out first )

My dream diary is on-track (after a brief hiccup yesterday, I remembered five dreams last night! ), and in the past year I've had 3 lucid dreams, although it's all gone a bit 'non-lucid' over the past month .

I'd like to try WILDing - but do you think it's worth it yet, or would it be a better idea to give straightforward Reality-Checking more time to work? The answer to this question is probably pretty obvious ("Give it a go and see if it works"), but based on other comments on the forums WILDing sounds like a pretty challenging thing to undertake - like running a marathon to build up your stamina rather than starting off with 100 metres a day and building up from there. Would it be better to go easy on my brain at the moment?

      Hey Dewines

      Welcome to DV

Well, it all depends on yourself. Some people manage to pull of WILDS (or anything that looks like it) very easily, others struggle forever and still don't succeed. WILD requires practice, patience and training if you arn't a 'natural' (they are out there). But, I think it is one of the most effective techniques out there to get an LD without too much effort, once you really get used to it. You might wake up in the middle of the night, and enter a lucid dream pretty shortly after going to the bathroom (I do quite often). Very efficient, and takes little timelater on. But lots of time to master, for the average dreamer. But hey, you might be talented! ^_^

Thanks Lucius, for the advice and the welcome.

That's useful to know. I'm going to seize the day and try it. I have periods of insomnia, so the idea of manipulating my sleeping patterns is off-putting, but I'll have to just get over that, otherwise my anxiety will just get in the way of progress.

Some people manage to WILD when they first go to bed, so it is not necessary to disturb your sleep patern. But, this is a lot harder and even though I pull it off on occasion doing it in the middle of the night or early morning is much much easier.

      Doh!

Not only did I not manage to WILD (just lay awake for a couple of hours) , but I couldn't even remember any dreams when I woke up. Never mind, I'll keep trying. 8)

You'll get there, I'm sure! I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

But, if you notice it's not working out, don't keep yourself awake for hours! I think that might work counterproductive. Don't be too hard on yourself, but I dont think you are Start out by practising during the weekends, holidays and other free days (when you dont have to work/go to school when you get up). You don't want to be all tired!

Patience is one of the keys to mastering WILD, dont push yourself, never be too hard on yourself. You'll do fine.

Thanks Lucius, that's really encouraging to know.

After tomorrow night I'll have a few days to practice, 'cos I'm taking a (very short) holiday. Woo-hoo! :yumdumdoodledum:

Hey there. Just thought I should let you know...that WILDing at night isn't the best time to do it because your mind/body just sort of wants to fall asleep.

The best time to WILD would be after 5 hours of sleep (check out the WBTB method in the tutorial section) or in the early morning hours. I also like to WILD when I nap during the day.

Just about the only good I've ever gotten from trying to WILD at night was that I failed miserably and woke up at 2am...but then that night I ended up having lucid dreams for a long part of the night. I've heard of a few accounts where failed WILD attempts at night lead to lucids later on in the night.

Anyways, good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Strange... The first time I ever tried to WILD as soon as I went to bed resulted in a very realistic Transitional Phase and almost a Lucid Dream.

Perhaps I do it straight away at night even better than when I try after 5 hours of sleep? (Which has so far been unsucsessful).
